I have to say the only thing I don't like about my 2016 R/T is the racetrack taillights. I think they look ridiculous and are very distracting to other drivers at night. Opinions? Fixes?

About the only thing you can do is swap in the taillights and center panel from the 11-13 Durangos, but that would probably require some rewiring since our reverse lights are on the outer part with the break/turn signal bulbs.

I'm a bit surprised by this revelation. Didn't you give the thing a good look over before buying? I cannot bring myself to buy a vehicle that I think is ugly from behind despite the fact that I don't have to see it when driving.

I really like them. No one 'Should' be able to claim they didn't see your tail lights

It's one of the design features I like about this SUV !

Don't forget, the Charger '11-'14 as well as the Dart have the race track also! Both my daughter and I like the one on my '14 Charger.

Add one more to the "like em" row.
I guess you could plastidip all, or part of them to dim them out some. Might even look cool too, if you partially blacked them out. But I like the look and the added brightness, even though I have never been a big fan of those blue-bulb bright headlights tho (Carol calls them 'Jackhole headlights' lol).. They can be dangerous to oncoming traffic at times.

The ones you're talking about are probably hids that people put in standard housings and don't aim them properly that blind other drivers. Factory setups with projectors are much better at not blinding other drivers. And factory is usually a really white light 4300- below 6000k. The really blue ones or any other color are kits people got off the internet and had installed or installed themselves.

I guess the racetrack lights are outrageous in a way... However, look at them this way; in a vehicle segment filled with ho-hum designs, FWD based architecture and AWD systems, turbo 4 cylinder or V6 engines (however good!) only options, the Durango is a standout.

The rear end light treatment embodies the sort of in-your-face attitude of the vehicle. However, the Durango still looks dignified and not juvenile.
As far as the lights being visible to other drivers, I don't think you'll find other brake lights that signal your foot on the brake any better! Safety feature, I think.

In case you couldn't guess, I'm a fan...

I like mine, one of the design features I like most about the truck. The added visibility is an additional line of defense against the distracted or incompetent drivers we all hope not to encounter. You're entitled not to like them though. I happen to like my chrome rims with black pockets, whereas most people here probably hate them. LOL! I guess that's what makes us all a little different and drives people to make their rides unique. I think Dodge did a real great job overall with the looks of the truck. Mine is almost 3 years old now and there are a lot more around since I got mine, yet people are always checking out my truck and it is entirely stock in appearance.

With all the idiots texting while driving I'm happy to have the rear end lit up like a Christmas tree.

Some people must like them the 15+ lincoln navigator did their best impression of them. And the 16+ mkx basically took them and put them on upside down.

The racetrack is probably the one thing that pushed me over the edge to look at a Durango...never loved the 2011-2013, but when they changed it in 14 I fell in love.

I have a 13 which is the old light design. One of my biggest regrets was not getting a 14 because I love the look of the racetrack lights. Although seeing the water trouble you all have im sort of not upset anymore. lol.. however I just replaced with led to make mine brighter and I am working on a way to make them look like mini racetracks.

Yes only downfall to them and that is a design issue. If they would just recall it we'd be set!
