Okay I run several searches and it seems to be a fairly common issue. It starts with the smell of hot antifreeze/coolant, usually coming from the driver's side of the engine compartment. I started to smell it from my '14 Limited V6 w/ HD cooling a couple weeks ago after parking it in the driveway on the way home from work. I marked the coolant over flow bottle (which is about 1/2 way between the FULL and ADD lines). The fluid level has not really moved in a couple weeks, but the smell is still there everyday.

Typically these OEM style radiators would start to leak at the O-ring seal joint under the crimp between the plastic side tanks and the aluminum heat exchanger section of the radiator. Anyone know if they all tend to start leaking from the same spot? If so, is it typically; up top, down low, out front or on the back (engine) side? There is always the possibility if the crimp has relaxed, that you can then very carefully re-crimp the joint - at least as a temporary fix. Or maybe there is a section in the molded plastic side tank than tends to develop a pin hole or crack? Just curious. I was thinking of getting some UV dye to try and track down the exact location of the leak, but I am not sure which is compatible with the Chrysler MS-12106 purple OAT coolant.

If the radiator has developed a leak, as long as the dealership will replace it with the correct radiator for the HD cooling #55038001AH and use the correct purple coolant, I would rather pay the $100 deductible than do the job myself. I have replaced enough radiators in my time - it would be nice to get one done under warranty for once.

Yeah, the coolant is pink in color. And I'm not so sure you shouldn't suspect your water pump first, unless you can pinpoint the leak.

When my water pump was going out, I first got to smell the syrup (smells like a pancake breakfast to me), that lasted for about 3 weeks but there was no coolant leak anywhere.......probably because it was burning off before it hit the ground. Then the pump started eating it's bearing....making noise. Finally, it puked enough to end up on my garage floor. Typical.

I wouldn't think it's the radiator unless these trucks are known for bad or cracking radiators and/or lousy hose connections. Just my two cents worth, which isn't usually enough to throw me.

The coolant drop in the recovery tank seems to be getting worst. I made an appointment at the dealership to have them look at it and see if the radiator needs to be replaced. I need to stop in at the parts department and pick up some of the new purple coolant to keep the level in the recovery tank from dropping too low.

How ya making out on the coolant smell??? I bought my 2014 Durango Limited with V6 69k on it back in November last year and I've had that burning coolant smell since a week or so after purchase (have put on 3.5k in that time). Didn't want to be bothered to drive over an hour back to the dealership where I bought it (one that dealt primarily in 4x4 trucks..Was the owners wife's vehicle). Thought maybe it was just a Pentastar trait :-s

I am still waiting for my appointment at the local dealership that I did not buy the vehicle at. Not sure how I am going to like working with them - I have called a couple times and their first question has always been, has the vehicle even been there before. When I tell them no, they quote me a four week lead time for a service appointment. Yet when I stopped in to the part department a couple weeks ago on a Saturday morning - no customers were waiting in the service department and the service writer was reading a magazine at his desk. Seems they only want to work on the vehicles that they themselves have sold.
