:wall: That'll teach me to make sure I don't have any summer washer fluid in the reservoir before it gets cold.
My D is sitting in the shop right now thawing out so I can have windshield/backlight washers working again. I thought I had it licked on Saturday when I got them going and filled up the reservoir with winter fluid, but apparently, I didn't get all of the summer juice out of the lines because this morning they were froze again!

Not really a big deal, but the annoyance factor is definitely very high.

Once I get them thawed out, I'll run the washers so there's a good amount of new stuff pumped thru them before I drive it back outside again.

If it stops being so butt cold, I probably won't have any problems. One can only wish. It was 9?F this morning. The D didn't have any suspension till I got about 3/4 of the way to work. Rode like a box of rocks!

Move about 1000mi southwest!

We're just getting into the cold weather up here in the northeast? been very mild so far (and even this current weather isn't all that cold.)

10 degrees here this AM and windchill was -1. Too cold, too early in the season.

Now where's that global warming thread?

Seriously, there's supposed to be a weak El Nino this winter (as opposed to a full El Nino where the rain is in the west.)

A weak El Nino = nice in the West, mild in the Southwest, drier in the Midwest and wetter in the East. As long as temps don't get too bad, less snow for all (but that'll be touch and go for the East with increased precip.)

Maybe now would be the time for one of our more adventurous types to figure out how to cobble the Buick heated washer system into a D.

Well? as far as I know, I have more Buick on my D than anyone else in the World right now. So? sorta qualifies me as the front runner I guess :)

However, I'd say just remember to add better fluid to the tank and forget about it.

Frozen Washers

This happened to me a few years ago on the way home from Asheville NC. It was a bitter day with snow through the gorge. The salt brine on I40 was getting on my windshield cutting visibility to almost zero. Washers were frozen. Arrrgh. Had to ride behind a few semis to "clean" the windshield with road spray. Stopped at the TN Welcome center and took a few insulated cups to the restroom where I filled them with scalding hot water. I then proceeded to the D and dumped it into the washer tank. Lowered the hood and let the D idle for 10 minutes while the kids played in the snow.

The trick worked! It cleared the ice clogs and allowed me to get home. where I purged the lines of water and added the winter mix. Just wanted to share a workaround that worked for me. :cheesy:

Why not just run the good stuff in there all year long??
I always do and have never had any problems with the washer system at all

I too have had the frozen washer nozzle issues lately, but, managed to purge out the summer washer fluid before it got too cold. Good thing as we just got 8"-10" of the white stuff this morning. Gotta love having a 4x4 in the winter!

One easy fix, and it's permanent, was eluded to previously. Washer fluid heaters have been on the market for a couple of years now, Buick isn't the first. A few of our local auto parts outlets sell them for around $50. Try your local Napa, unless you live in the south where they'll have no idea what you're talking about!

Cold

Yo! That's us! we only get real cold for 30 days or so.

I run the winter stuff year round - always have. It's cheap enough.

Just put in the Prestone stuff in that also de-ices.

I'm with you on the box of rocks, makes you really appreciate those shocks when they're not stiff in the morning!

We buy washer fluid in bulk for the shop, and in the summertime, we buy the +32? blend. It's cheaper, and my boss I'm sure appreciates that. We go thru enough of it that the winter blend is in stock before the cold weather hits, but I evidently didn't use my washers enough to pump all the summer juice out before it got that cold.

Since it's free, and right at my fingertips, I don't bother buying it at the store.
