I'm telling you. It's amazing. They redesigned the sound bar completely. Speakers aren't in little pods on the dash anymore either. The beats stereo is really terrible. The front door speakers are way over driven. Xm is clearer than most but overall it is pretty bad.

Did they upgrade the Satellite quality? I know on those older radios they were still using the Sirius codec so the quality was like streaming a 16bit audio file, total garbage!

Antenna Radio is pretty good. I literally only listened to it during the Christmas season for Christmas music, but when it popped into HD, it sounded pretty nice. My processor picked up on the enhanced stereo separation in HD, and ended up making a nice solid stage image even with radio. Usually I only get that when playing 256kB/s+ files from the USB. With my setup, anything less causes issues in the sound, so I have to be a little picky in what I DL.

God I hope so. Kinda sad when FM sounds better than satellite.

Fm always sounds better than satellite. And yea it was better than my old wrangler but the dd is clearer when in satellite. It can only get so good because of the compression and fm, especially hd radio will always sound better than satellite.

No, Sat radio music still sounds like crap compared to antenna in every radio I listen to it..no matter what brand.
I only use it to listen to sports, Fox or CNN news.
Music channels way too muddled IMO.

The only "factory" mobile audio systems that seem to be excellent bang for buck are the Harmon Kardons. Go listen to an HK system in a WRX limited at a dealership, or in the BMWs. It's worlds apart from Beats, Alpine, Bose, etc. Although compared to Beats and Alpine the Bose systems are still pretty decent too.
I'd add the Bang and Olufsen system in my wife's Audi, it's exceptional! Also the Mark Levinson systems in the Lexus lineup is right up there. Someone mentioned mud earlier and that is exactly the thought I have when I listen to the Beats system. I actually prefer listening to that 5.7L Hemi in Sport Mode...that's my stereo!

Did the OP get any good, clear options? I am thinking a simple sub swap wouldn't fix it, as I think the amp just isn't doing its job. Anyone found a way to adjust the amp gain to the sub? Or anyone tried replacing the sub only? I have seen someone mention the dealer applied upgraded firmware for the AMP? Thanks! I have no bass and am just sick of it! I can't even feel the sub box vibrating!

There are no cures without going off "the deep end" as I call it. You can't fix what the stock setup is, and isn't, without attacking the issue at the core of the problem. Its a bad "premium" system. I made my Durango absolutely jaw-dropping to hear (not talking about loud, but sound quality/accuracy/tonality) but it took a processor, amps, tons of deadening, etc. and while it was fun, its not like I can suggest everyone go do that. I can ASSIST though, for those seeking. The hard part is finding a processor with surround capabilities. Those are rare right now, for some unknown reason.

Now, I had this in one of my threads before, but this may need some fleshing out. I'll focus for now on the subwoofer side of things

Here's what the stock subwoofer does, the teal line is without the sub connected, dark line is with. So the sub is responsible for the difference.

So the sub DOES do something, but because the truck's parts back there by the sub are not properly deadened, the whole thing resonates and "rings" at low frequencies. What you see here is a waterfall graphic, a measurement of response over time. So the back of the wall in the graphic is the initial response (in this case, of the LF woofer/tweeter and the sub together), and notice that in the lower frequencies there's response still going in the 35hz range. This is bad. It mostly indicates that the speaker itself is ringing (box too small is my guess) and things around it are too.

There's more I can show you, but its a lot of data. Basically, I think you could succeed in making a better subwoofer solution, but it fixes the bottom octave of a deeper problem, if you're seeking a highly accurate, detailed, honest to the music system. Then again, if you're just after more bass, yeah throw some subs at it. Probably grab signal off the front woofer door output and you're going to get what should be a decent response.

Not impressed with the beats at all.. The alpine system is my Ram is way better.. seems like the beats is just there for the name

New 2017 R/T with 100 miles on it I installed the following, ( had it done .. lol ) see the parts installed below....

JL ACP108LTGW1 AMPLIFOED 8" WOOFER, RFK18I Wiring kit...picks up some mid-bass too.
AC-LC2I 2 CHAN AUDIO CONTROL, takes the base line that flattens out from the OE system and allows it to peak the signal and adjusts to your liking.
JL RBCI Bass knob control, it's in the glove box

Great install, I am very very picky , and nervous about turning my baby over at 100 miles for work like this. $735.00 later, completely installed....it blows my mind sounds better than I expected....the Beats System just needed a steroid shot ad this was it !!!!
I like rock, metal, oldies and almost everything in between...this set up was the shops recommendation and I also researched for a month and I am glad I took the leap of faith.

Question: where is the sub located in a '16 R/T? Is it under the false floor in the very back cargo area?

It should have not moved. Open the cargo area, you should see a hump (takes up ~1/2 the space) and under that, is the sub.

Factory sub still in place but unplugged....the new JL sits on the outside,( Nice looking units, Velcro keeps it in place, color is the same so it look GREAT ) Looks like it belongs there. However it will go next to the factory unit ( under storage lid ) while in operation " small loss in sound quality " if I choose, great option for stowing and hauling stuff in the back. This unit can be completely removed with RCA jacks in 15 seconds or less.

I thought the beats was so cool at first, then i listened to the bose in the new tahoe, and the bose in a 99 maxima.... i think they both were better than the beats. even in a 99 maxima!!!!

I have a 2017 RT and the Beats system doesn't sound bad at all. You need to tune it to your liking. Which also means moving the sound stage from front to rear to taste.
For a stock stereo system I find it to be very nice. Not something I would use as an aftermarket upgrade system but for factory I have no complaints so far.
I'm thinking I don't have enough experience. I only have had my Truck a few days and honestly half of it was listening to the HEMI LOL.

It's really pretty terrible for a "premium" stereo on a $50k+ vehicle. The stereo in my wife's 16 jgc is much better and it's not even the upgraded one

I wish I could have carried the Monsoon stereo system over from my donated 2005 Volkswagen Passat TDI wagon into my D Limited, man that system sounded good for factory. With the soundstage moved slightly aft it sounded like quality headphones whether at a whisper or cranked! I would often sit in the driveway to wait for a song to finish before exiting the vehicle it was that good. I only have my durango for two weeks now so still fine tuning but doing the same thing (moving the center slightly aft) and highlighting the mid and higher freq's makes a huge improvement.
