while looking into the spilled-coffee recall, I stumbled across this? posted here for those that migh not have seen it?

Make/Models : Model/Build Years:
Dodge/Dakota 1997-2003
Dodge/Durango 1997-2003
Dodge/Ram 1500 1994-2003
Dodge/Ram 2500 1994-2002
K&N/57-1509 9999
K&N/57-1511 9999
K&N/57-1511-1 9999
K&N/57-1517 9999
K&N/57-1517-1 9999
K&N/57-1527 9999
K&N/57-1530 9999
Mopar/P5007069 9999
Mopar/P5007070 9999

Recall Number: 06E024000

Summary:
Certain replacement K&N fuel performance kits, p/nos. 57-1509, 57-1511, 57-1511-1, 57-1517, 57-1517-1, 57-1527, and 57-1530. Also, a small percentage of these kits were sold under the Mopar Performance parts brand name (p/nos. P5007069 and p5007070.) All kits were manufactured from April 20, 1999, through September 23, 2004. These assemblies were manufactured as replacement equipment for certain Dodge pickup trucks and SUVs. A small piece of material from the tube wall could be sucked into the engine throttle body, which could cause the throttle to become jammed in the open position.

Consequence:
A jammed open throttle could cause unintended acceleration of the vehicle, possibly resulting in a crash or increased stoping distances when braking.

Remedy:
K&N will provide owners with a free repair kit along with repair instructions. The recall began on April 20, 2006.

Notes:
This recall only pertains to replacement K&N fuel performance kits and has no relation to any original equipment installed on Dodge vehicles manufactured by DaimlerChrysler. Customers may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.Safercar.Gov

Very, very very old news. I'm on my fourth one.

So Neil, can we get you to the plant tour this year? It's been a while!
And yes, K&N has been replacing them for years but now it's an official recall? probably so the manufacturer can cover their butt. Maybe you should call again Neil and get a spare tube.

I got a "recall" notice in the mail about a year ago (after I had gone through 2-3 already) I've got two old tubes with small cracls in the garage. Yea I could keep saying mine is bad and stock pile the things but no sense in abusing the system. No matter, I just bought a nice IP stage 3 with the cast aluminum K&N air hat (polished.) I'll have to check the current tube then put it up for sale.

I missed last year because of a buisness trip. I'm out of town all the time now. It lookes like I have a trip on Fri 20th as of now. If I can I'll at least stop down Thurs evening.

The campaign was issued in March of '06.
The repair kit has only been available since April '06.

Also see http://www.knfilters.com/FIPK/tuberecall.htm

I think this is a different problem, or possibly new urgency?

Yes the recall is new. Prior to that, they (K&N) willingly would replace a tube if it was broken or cracked. That was on a use by use basis. Now, they have issued a universal recall on the same issues.

Under the recall, I had my new tube in 48 hours, shipped via Fed-Ex and zero cost to me.

Same problem. There's no "repair kit". They refer to if the "kit" is affected. It's the same problem since day one. Geez I don't remember when I bought mine originally. It was when they first came out and it developed cracks. It was probably 99 or early 00. I received a "new and improved" version that was noticibly thicker and heavier. That cracked and so on and so forth. I don't know how many "improved" versions they have really made.

My new one, replaced in april this year, seemed to be the same weight of the previous version I had gotten from someone here at the club many moons ago. No problems what so ever to get it exchanged. There manufacturing plant is 15 miles from my house.
