I have had mine folded down since I bought it. I'm just wondering how hard it is to remove and what the result would be. I could probably build a custom (wooden) locker for additional storage while keeping the cargo area flat. My kiddies are grown and I will be rarely needing it.
I don't think you can buy a Gen 3 D without it. If you can, are there a mopar parts that fill it in? I think on the Gen 1's the unibody was actually different for those without the 3rd row. But I'm not sure on Gen 3.

I think someone here has a Special Service version without the third row, and maybe some storage in that area. That's probably the only way to get one without the third row from the factory.

Thanks guys,
That search lead me down a strange path without any direct answers to my question. But indirectly, I somehow ended up with Billy Gibbons of ZZTop at Daryl's house which was a pretty good
.
I don't think the Special Service parts will show up in any parts breakout, but I may pull the seats in the late Spring to see what I can do. It should be pretty easy to reclaim that space.

I have... When I was installing my emergency equipment and pre-running wires... This also shows the rear storage tray removed, but the sub enclosure still installed...

Thank you,
any tips on removing the third row?

I believe its 4 nuts on the back and 2 bolts on the front, then the 2 plugs for the headrest release, and thats it... The second row is the awkward one to get out, the third row was easy...

I have a Special Service 2014 Durango and it came with the 3rd row of seats. They are folded down permanently and a large gun locker was put on top and bolted in. It takes up 85% of the back of the vehicle...with about 6-8 inches left between the box and the 2nd row. Its almost as wide as the back also.

We wanted it without the 3rd row...but it worked out.

From Dodge website:

"The 2014 Dodge Durango Special Service Vehicle returns with some new and updated features that help it fight crime, fires, or whatever else you can throw at it. Available for police , fire, and general fleet customers, the full-size SUV offers best-in-class power and an array of new dashboard gadgetry that includes TFT and touch screen displays.

Offered with either the 3.6-liter, Pentastar V-6 or the 5.7-liter, HEMI V-8, the Durango SSV comes with Chrysler ’s new eight-speed, rotary-dial-controlled, transmission. Both engines lay down impressive stats, but on opposite ends of the spectrum. The V-6 is estimated to get 25 mpg and have a range of 600 miles; meanwhile, the HEMI can tow 7,400 pounds.

Expecting the Durango SSV would get abused, Dodge outfits them with heavy-duty brakes, heavy-duty battery, a larger-output 220-amp alternator, heavy-duty water pump, engine oil cooler, and a load-leveling suspension. Other options include skid plates on AWD models, backup camera, tow package, engine block heater and Uconnect.

All SSV Durangos have their third row seats removed for added cargo room, and come with extra under-floor storage compartments. Illuminating the interior is a red and white dome lamp while the outside gets the Durango’s standard LED daytime running lamps and rear ‘race track’ taillights. It also comes prewired for an A-pillar spotlight.

Standard Electronic Stability Control, electronic roll mitigation, Hill-start Assist, Trailer-sway Control, Rain Brake Support, and Ready Alert Braking help keep the Durango’s shiny side up while chasing perps and putting out fires.

Dodge is taking orders for the 2014 Durango SSV and production is already underway at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit."

Does yours have the red and white dome lamp?

Thank you,
any tips on removing the third row?
I'm seriously thinking of doing the same thing. Miss all the room we had in the 2008 Grand Caravan. Never used the 3rd row in that one in the 6 plus years we had it so don't think I'll have any use for it in the Durango. I Bought the Durango over the JGC because of the extra length more than a third row seat.
Not sure how it will work with the jack mount and speaker hump. Going to look it over good before deciding.
I guess few have done such a thing by lack of comments.

Appreciate the thread anyway.

Any of you guys who are removing the seat want to sell them. I got the Heat model with only first and second row. The family three kids were why did you get one with the extra row cause you know they cant sit next to each other. UGH.

I have a SSV without 3rd row and extra storage compartments. I love it. Had a Gen 2 with 3rd row and I was always taxi, now I just say "No room" :)

having 2 3rd gen Durangos, it sure would be nice if one was only a 5 seater... typically we use the wife's (2011 Crew with bench) for the grocery getter and kid hauler (leaving the 3rd row folded down 99% of the time) and mine (14 Limited with captains) for work or hauling more than 4... the pass through to the 3rd row is a MUST when you have 2 kids in car seats.
