I still have my stock shoes on the D with about half tread life on them. I'm wondering, though, since the winter is coming very soon, do I actually need to buy winter tires like Blizzaks or something? I've never had an awd vehicle so I'm wondering if you guys think I need something more aggressive for the snow or should I be ok? I'm in PA btw, we do get a decent amount of snow. And before someone mentions it, I'm not a huge fan of chains. Thanks!!

I had Forteras on my Trailblazer and they were good in the snow. Those were 17's though, not sure if the 20's will be different.

I liked the Forteras enough to buy them again on the Trailblazer when it needed tires.

They are probably ok, The problem with OEM forteras is they are poor quality and more often than not fail in a sense that they cant be balanced properly.

Yes snow tires will be better and AWD doesn't mean you stop any quicker... but my stance is if it's bad enough that you need snow tires on an SUV you should probably stay home (unless you're a first responder etc). Moreso than the tread the rubber compound is different and makes a huge difference in colder temps. Last time I ran snow tires was when I had a RWD daily, my last 2 SUVs I didnt feel like I needed them with AWD, but I'm closer to Philly so we don't get hit as bad as you.

I used to live in Willow Grove if that's where you still are (The winters are not much worse up here, only 40-50 miles north or so). Looks like the Forteras are staying on for the winter. Maybe next year I'll get a separate snow set. I'm not a first responder per say but I do need to get around in the bad weather.

The Forteras on my '14 are about 6/32.... but I have RWD... no way I was gunna trust them in Iowa... I took the New Ooper Discoverer ATPs of my 2011 Crew and put them on the '14 RWD.... the AWD Crew gets Blizzak DMV1s! That thing is a beast in the snow!

I've got them on my Jeep GC and the Durango, saying that the Jeep is a freakin monster in bad weather, were the Durango is blah. The AWD system in the Durango is the limiting factor.

My Forteras are on their second Alaskan winter with no issues yet.

Mastercraft - Courser MSR Winter Tires 265/60r18 on 2012 Jeep Sahara 7-spoke rims. Not exactly the look I wanted but everything was under $1,000.

Hilly here in the northeast. It's not the climbing that's the challenge, it's the stopping (had a full size blazer with all-terrain tires that sucked in the snow). Have not driven in snow yet but should get the job done.

Thanks guys for the help.
