Looking to connect led strip lighting to dome light source so my new iboard running boards have some illumination. I think using an "add a circuit" secondary fuse would work off the interior lights fuse, or, I could possibly use a split splice to the dome light wire, but don't know the dome light wire color for the 2016 D. Any thoughts on a solution? Appreciate any advice.

instead of wiring to dome light, I would tap into the footwell lights on both the driver and passenger sides.. that way your running board lights dont come on when you hit the dome light while driving down the road (not that its a huge deal)

there are 2 round lights, about and inch and a half in diameter each in the passenger and driver footwell.. and if you look real closely, there are 2 VERY SMALL rectangular LEDs... if it were me, I'd tap into the LEDs

you might need to do some testing to see which ones come on with the dome or of the opening of the doors/unlock of key fob

MIGHT have to run up into the engine bay, then through firewall plug on pass side... that would put your RIGHT at the passenger side LED footwell light

(dealer routed my mopar hitch wiring down passenger side up into engine bay)

I've been thinking about putting lights on or under my running boards and tapping into the tail light lead on my trailer wiring harness. The tail lights come on when you press unlock on the remote. I think their is also a dedicated fuse for each of the trailer harness leads

Question... Are you wanting these to turn on when you open the door and/or press the unlock button or are you looking for something that only comes on when you tell it to come on?

I used this to install LEDs behind my grille and it works like a charm. I still need to do a write up on how to wire it but its pretty simple and could walk you through it. I installed it on the pass side just forward of the fuse box and I keep the remote(s), not sure why it has 2, in the center console. I plan to install some cut to length LEDs on the hood and wire to the same reciever so as long as I dont lose total battery power if I need some extra light on the side of the road at dark:30 trying to diagnose and or fix a problem, lets hope it doesnt come to that, I will have lots of light under there to see what Im doing.

Do this and anytime you have your tail lights on your running board lights turn on as well. The best option would be the footwell lights or a wireless reciever depending on what your plans are.

Yes, I only want them on when lock/unlocking and when any door is open. I also want the fade in/out too. Great to get your point of views.
Need to tap into the footwell light then...

Did you ever end up getting this done? I was planning on doing this same thing and was trying to decide which lights to tap into. A youtube video of someone with a 2013 DD with this said he wired back into the accessory lights in the lift gate but didn't explain it or go into any real detail. (This guy here
