I just put a hold on a 2015 White Rallye Limited with 8000kms priced at $34770 Canadian. It has leather seats, Navi and Captains chairs. It looks pristine inside and out however has 3 damage incidents on its carproof including one police accident report filed.

The damage report says hood, right side and rear center with damgage estimates at $2193, $860 and $1876 respectively. The right side and rear center damage appear to be related to a single accident.

The dealer said the damage was purely cosmetic and everything has been repaired fully by the previous owner. However non of that is in writing anywhere. Dealer has been giving me a hard time taking it for a prepurchase inspection at my own mechanic insists his chrysler dealership mechanics will do the job. However i insisted on it and should be doing the inspection today.

Finiancing was at 5.89% 84 months $235 bi weekly Canadian with 5000 down.

Shoukd I pull the trigger?

I would also take it to a body shop to have them look at it. This stuff is their business, so they would be able to provide the best assessment IMHO. You want to make sure that whatever parts were replaced, were replaced with genuine Mopar parts, and not aftermarket. Looking at the cost figures, it doesn't seem like any of the damage was major or the figures would be much higher, but you have no way of knowing that those figures are accurate.

If the dealer is giving you a hard time about getting your own inspection, that is a red flag. A good salesman should have no issue with that if there was nothing to hide.

Is the title clean or now salvage?

If salvage, that price is waaay to high IMO. Even if clean title, I still think too high due to its history

Me personally, I'm not a fan of used cars, and damaged ones I would never consider. If those 3 were reported, what's to say some were never reported??

looking at the price to fix I couldn't see it being any major damage at all, but, I would want to take it for inspection or do some of my own before pulling the trigger.

It could very well be that the damage was cosmetic, but just confirm with a body shop. I had some d-bags steal the rims off my G37 and caused damage to the rocker panels and the cats by putting it up on logs. The car wasn't in an accident, but it was almost 9 grand in damage to replace the wheels, cats and rocker panels. That would show up in a report as a really expensive damage incident, but you'd never know it was b/c of a theft....

By those prices I'd say it's just cosmetic, my brothers dart got hit and all it did was bend the sheet metal of the rear wheel well and it was $1,800 to fix it. But like everyone else said, get it looked at! But I agree, 34,700 is ~26,475.41... Not that bad honestly but should be a bit less for the damage... I'm seeing them for 26-28k with higher miles but clean histories

UPDATE

Thank you all for the feedback. I took the car to my mechanic and also took the carproof report to a body shop based on the suggestion here.

The mechanic confirmed no major damage to the vehicle. He indicated that the rear bumper rebar was replaced and suspected a rear end accident. He also found abnormally high tire wear for an 8000km car on all four tires with an angled feathering pattern suggesting toe-in misalignment. He noted that if it progresses it will cause exteremly bad road noise in another 10000kms. He suggested that I request an alignment at the dealership and if for any reason the alignment report shows that they were not able to realign the wheels then I should back away from the deal. Otherwise he said it seems like a good buy.

The body shop owner said that the prices indicated cosmetic repairs likely including a full hood and bumper replacement and possibky a side panel. He said there is no guarantee the work wont chip or corrode in the future.

After returning to the salesman with the report and requesting the alignement he said that the deal will likely be cancelled by his boss? However I insisted he ask his boss and he came back with an ok on doing the alignment which will be done tomorrow.

On a side note, the body shop guy said he could get me a great private deal on a clean R/T coming off a rental fleet in a month. Low kms for around $37000 CAD. He said he could have more details in a week. Not sure what to make of that but I really liked the guy and his shop.

Is the limited a v6 or v8? The r/t is v8 only, as well as slightly lowered suspension, more aggressive Exhaust, and in general slightly more sporty.

Make sure they get the alignment done correctly though, and I'd try and get new tires out of them as well especially if it's AWD.
