Intake manifold gasket!

I called the dealer about the plenum gasket?$22.50

He said they don't stock the intake manifold bolts, so that means that you don't need new ones, that you could reuse the old ones. Is this right or should I get new ones.

Also Do I need rtv sealant on the new plenum gasket or on the other manifold gaskets? There are 2 more gaskets that are for the manifold besides the plenum right? Should I get new ones of those? thanks again

You'd never need to replace bolts when doing a job such as this.

You should get some RTV for the end seals of the plenum-to-block seal. Sometimes there's not even a gasket or rubber seal there?Just a thick bead of dum-dum is all that's used.

Don't ever use RTV sealant on the plenum plate gasket! Just assemble this part with a dry gasket. RTV on the intake side of an engine will booger up the O2 sensors.

There should be a total of 5 gaskets/seals?One plenum plate gasket, two intake-to-head gaskets, and two end seals. Your dealer should know what ones you need to complete the job.

I'd probably suggest replacing the O-rings on the injectors. Once they're disturbed, it's likely that one may leak once they're reinstalled.
Lube them up with good ol' Vaseline to reinstall the fuel rail.

Well, I wouldn't say you never have to replace those bolts. When I changed my "beer keg" to the M1 the two manifold bolts closest to the fire wall snapped off. I didn't even use force on them. I just put a wrench on them and they snapped. I ordered the bolts from the stealer ship, they where fairly cheap and only come in a kit to replace all of them. It took two days to get them in. NAPA and Autozone didn't carry them. I guess what I'm saying is it doesn't hurt to have them just in case, unless you don't' need your D for a couple of days.

Sweet!
Thanks guys It makes sense now what I all need to do. I'll get the bolts just in case I think. They look pretty crappy! Is there a better place to get the gaskets or is the stealership ok? also what kind of rtv should I use?

There's a combination intake manifold gasket & bolt set available from Mopar, I'll have to dig around and see if I can find the part # from my last kit.

You can also buy upgraded bolts:

I went to napa and they had a full kit with the plenum gasket, both side head gasket things and each rubber seal for the ends for $28 it was made by Victor? they don't have the felpro, and autozone wasn't sure what gaskets were all included with their kit. Is the Victor gasket any good? or should I get the Mopar or Felpro?

oh yeah neither napa or autozone had the fuel injector o rings either. AZ could get them, but it said that there were 4 needed? wouldn't I need 8?

I have bought O-rings from both Autozone and Pep Boys? I found that they either didn't have part #'s listed for the Dakota/Durango 5.9L V8, or they wanted some outrageous price to custom order them. As with most engine parts I had them cross-reference a 98-99 Ram 5.9L V8 and not only were they in stock, they were significantly cheaper as well (and there's no difference in the parts either.) In both cases each box came with 4 O-rings inside.
