When waxing my D, I usually only wax the front and back portions of the roof not the part between the roof rails

Not only do I wax the entire roof, but I paint correct it and seal it!! OCD anyone!

If I did not have toddler twins to spend all of my time when I am not working, I would wax 3 times a year. Clay prob once a year. Leather clean and condition prob 4-5 times a year and general wash every week.

You should wax the roof. When the birds drop a bomb on your D, at least the wax will give it some protection. Or else, you can say good-bye to the paint.

I bought a magnum 15 months ago and had the entire car waxed, I don't think the other owner did any wax, detailer noticed two spots behind sunroof and told me I'll be having issues there, as of 6 months ago is have nearly 2 medium pizza sized clear coat issues.,

If some of you are only "waxing" once or twice a year, I highly recommend you use synthetic sealants instead. "Wax" aka standard Carnauba products (especially Wal-Mart off-the-shelf type stuff) will provide protection for about 90 days at a time. And that's not bad for Carnauba, if you ask me. A synthetic sealant could be used under the Carnauba product (or on its own) to provide more long-term protection. The roof is a vital thing to seal and protect, since it is a horizontal surface getting all the sun, environmental fallout, etc. You'll notice your roof and hood (and the trunk lid if we had a sedan) will pick up environmental fallout much faster than vertical surfaces. If you have no intention in waxing the vehicle, I highly recommend getting the car properly corrected, and then coated professionally and then maintained by same said person/company. I'm not a fan of coatings on my own vehicles (I prefer to routinely detail them manually) but I know other people are less into maintenance and would be a good candidate.
Most but not all of those are good for a few weeks protection. It is hard to say if it is good or not, but if the water beads readily you can assume that the protection is still valid enough. I would never rely on that sort of product for true protection, more like "touch-up" or maintenance of a job already well done.
