I contacted my local dealer this morning, and the SA Renee assures me that they have the required part(s) on hand.
Someone please correct me if I am in error, but the inflator as far as I can tell is the airbag assembley itself located in the center of the steering wheel.
I thought they might have to order the proper color. Maybe the cover is separate, and would then be reinstalled on the new part.
I am set to take my D in Thursday morning the 17th at 0830.
Also, here is the letter I received regarding the expanded (again) program.

Just visited one of the two Dodge dealers within an hour's drive of home, and the man on the spare parts desk looked up my VIN, said that it was part of the recall, they had the parts in stock, and anytime I'd like to make a booking they can do the work. It'll take less than an hour.

I am happy to report that as promised, they had my D in and back out within 1 hour. The invoice says they installed 1 CBXZP811AA driver airbag inflator.

While I was waiting, I took the opportunity to test drive a gorgeous 2014 Dodge Charger R/T with AWD! I was of course highly impressed. It rode and handled like a sports sedan should, and the 370 HP Hemi was intoxicating to say the least. With the AWD system, wheel spin is not an issue. It just puts the power down, and goes like a rocket!

No fear though, the D is not going anywhere.
The plan is to find a new home for my DD 04 Crown Vic Sport that I will have had for 3 years August 31st. Once that happens, and I get few other items squared away, it will be time to go on the prowl for a Charger to become my new DD.

Folks:
Today's mail brought yet another recall notice from FCA regarding the passenger side airbag inflator for the 2004-2009 Durangos.
Campaign S43/NHTSA 16V-352 states that FCA will now be replacing the passenger side front inflator "when parts become available."
Guess I will have to "suffer" through additional Dodge Charger test driving when my local dealer gets the needed parts! :0)

As an update, I inquired today with Renee again about the availability of the parts to do the passenger side air bag recall. She said that her understanding is that the entire dash must be loosened or removed to complete the passenger air bag repair. The thought is that FCA is trying to figure how best to do this (or a way around it) while they acquire the needed parts.
She had no timeline to offer as to when the parts would be on hand.

If its any consolation....

I'm an engineer where the about 60% of these recalled inflators are being built (we are takatas largest competitor and they couldnt handle the volume of inflators required for the recall so they outsourced most of it) and I know first hand that they are high quality inflators.

Also takata may go bankrupt but you will get your inflators.

Edit/Update.... I just learned that as of the end of November Takata is up for sale and that Autoliv (my company) is one of the top 2 bidders that Takata is considering. This is a scary thing because Autoliv currently owns more than 50% of the global market in airbags, and acquiring Takata will make it almost a monopoly. But you do have to give it to Autoliv that they do a good job, no thats not me tooting my own horn, i work in one of 8 inflator plants owned by Autoliv.

Not sure what you mean by your comment "go competitor?" Was that directed to me?
If so, please explain further.

UPDATE:
The parts for our Gen 2 passenger side airbag recall are finally available! It appears that the initial information I had heard about the dash having to come out was inaccurate. The service was completed at my local dealer Northgate Dodge today in about an hour and a half.
The paperwork says they installed part # CBXZS432AA per recall S43.

I had initially gotten a notice in the mail regarding the passenger side being added to the driver side recall, but have not gotten anything saying that the passenger parts were available. I just happened to be on the Dodge owner website recently, and it stated there under open recalls that parts were now available.

:cool:I'm part of the S43 club as well.
I booked an appointment with Motor Village LA for next week.
They have the part.

My concern is that their Yelp reviews are pretty shoddy.
And if you do a search on "recall" it starts to get a little scary.
There are 12 one star reviews,
1 five star and 2 four star.

Out of the 12, 4 are the "And I couldn't believe the manager burped while I was texting!" type,
but 8 talk about serious problems that cost a lot of money to repair,
showing up shortly after the recall repair.

What do you guys think?

Ak907:
Go to the Dodge owners web site, click on recall, and input your VIN. It should tell you if there are any open recalls.

We put new plates on my wife’s 05 Corolla and Oregon DMV actually sent us notice that it never got replaced, had it done about 3 months ago. Don’t worry, if it wasn’t done, they will know and still honor it.
