New member, soon to be new owner from Long Island (now with pics!)

Hello all,

I joined a few days ago after reading through posts to help me make a decision about my next new vehicle, in particular, to learn the good and bad about the new Durango.

I guess nothing I've read scared me away, because today my dealer is placing an order for a 2016 Dodge Durango R/T AWD, Granite/Red, with tow package, tech package, blacktop package, and sunroof.

I was a bit surprised to find that nothing with those options (regardless of color) existed in stock. Most of the trucks in the area didn't have tow or tech, and did have captain's chairs and/or rear DVD, neither of which I wanted, so after several days of looking, the order is being placed today.

I've always considered myself a MOPAR guy because I'm into the vintage stuff, but this is my first new one. I'm worried about reliability, but haven't seen any big, common issues being mentioned here, so I decided to go for it.

My other toys:
1969 Dodge Dart GT convertible
1985 Toyota Celica GTS convertible
1999 Toyota Solara SLE V6
2004 Acura TL
2012 Ford Mustang GT convertible

The Durango will ultimately replace my Solara, which I've owned since new and will be giving to my niece this fall.

Looking forward to reading/participating here in the future, especially after the new truck arrives, hopefully in the estimated 6-8 weeks.

Update: Took delivery of my Durango 6/7. I've attached a few cell-phone pics, and will post better ones soon.

Welcome Lee!

I think you'll be glad you ordered just want you want. It's a big purchase, and it looks like you hang onto your vehicles.. no sense settling for a compromise.

Welcome about and checkout the Carlisle PA thread , its one of our bigger get togethers

Welcome MOPAR brother! I think you'll like it. Allow for some teething, you'll be fine.

Man, they'll let anybody in this place! ;-) Welcome aboard, Lee, glad to hear you decided on the Durango, you won't be disappointed.
Hi John!

Yeah, it's like they lowered the standards to let you in and forgot to raise them again, which is how I got in!

:)

Looking forward to the new toy in (hopefully) six to eight weeks!

Thanks MJB8.

I used to be an ACN regular with my Dart but eventually lost patience with the crowds, heat, and driving a not air conditioned convertible 250 miles each way in July. I haven't been to ACN in at least eight years.

I was just saying to a few people that a side benefit of owning the Durango would be occasionally taking it to ACN and parking it on the fun field. It won't happen in 2016, but perhaps 2017.

Thanks!

When I was searching for my R\T in 2014 all of them had the 2nd row captains with center console. Im not sure why the dealers all order them like that. I guess they think its more sporty?! I really wanted the 2nd row bench and ordered one that way but after waiting nearly 3 months and then hearing that there would be more delays I could not wait any longer and found one in Kansas that had all the options I liked except it has the 2nd row console! I still kinda regret that because when you fold down all the seats that center console sticks up pretty high.I know it will get damaged eventually. I keep a little seat cover handy to try to protect it when I have to load stuff in the back. Also when I bring more than 3 people with me someone has to try to squeeze in the 3rd row which IMO is only OK for kids.
Tow should be included with all Hemi's.
DVD package is way overpriced. $2000!
Enjoy your R/T, it is a sweet ride.

My R/T was delivered to my dealer yesterday!

I should be picking up the truck by the end of next week.

I got lucky with the rebate while I waited for delivery. There was a $750 rebate at the time I ordered, which expired 5/31 and was replaced by a $1,250 rebate plus an additional $500 HEMI rebate, for a total of $1,750 in rebates.

Pics to follow after I take delivery.

Yep, I was right! I ordered mine on 3/22 and mine still shows "order received" with no idea when I'll get it. UGH!

Congrats on getting yours though! Enjoy!
Crap!

Is yours a smaller dealer? Maybe they didn't have allocation when they took the order. I'd definitely make noise with the dealer, as I can't imagine a hold up at the factory, and as far as I know production of the '16s ends this week.

Sorry about your difficulties.

Mines a corporate lease through Enterprise and from the looks of it, they get pushed all the way to the bottom of the list. My G8 took 8 months, my RAM took 5 and it's looking like the D will take 5 too.
