You can't add anything to an existing loan without refinancing the whole thing. Definitely not worth it. Just pay cash for the warranty.

Some places offer independent financing for the warranty purchase, but personally, I wouldn't do it. If you can't pay cash for it, just save up until you can.

I currently own a 2014 Ram 1500, and over on the Ram forum this is the site people seem to like best. Get A Genuine Mopar Vehicle Extended Warranty at Low Prices! YMMV

I'm currently looking at a 2016 DD R/T, but here in Alaska good deals are difficult due to the captive audience. I have joined Tread Lightly in order to get the discount and I've got the Ram for sale locally on CL....

For me, because it's cheaper to buy the warranty within the 1st 12k miles.
For others, it may be due to rolling the warranty into the financing of the overall deal.

You can certainly buy the Mopar service contract 36 months / 36k miles in, but it will cost you more for the same coverage. ie: a 2 year/60k mile warranty on a vehicle that has 36k miles on it, and is 3 years old, will be more than a 5 year/100k warranty when it's new.

how much cheaper is it to buy the warranty within 12/12k than it is for same warranty purchased at 3/36k ?

if you figure your $ should be earning you 10% per year (well, maybe 5% this day in age), that adds up to $300-$600 after 3 yrs. i guess if it were rolled into a zero % financing arrangement it might make more sense to me.

Unless the warranty was more than a grand cheaper to buy while the factory 3/36 still applied, I dont see the financial sense in this. Hell at least wait to 12/12k before buying (again unless you are rolling into a 0% finance deal).

I just got my D 2 weeks go from CarMax and got their maximum warranty 6 years, 150K mile with a high deductible $300 for $2,300.00. The trick with the deductible is it's one charge per visit so you bring it in with multiple problems (let them stack up if possible, I know this sounds weird) and it's only a single charge of $300 per visit even if they have to fix 10 problems. Plus if you take it directly to CarMax, they knock off $50 bucks so it's only $250.

I plan on having the D for as long as I can and I put ~25K miles on it per year, so that maps right out to 150K miles and am very glad I did it.

Just one big repair, say the head unit, transmission or motor during 150K miles and the warranty pays for itself so I'm very happy.

Thanks! I found it buried in the contract that I have to go through the selling dealer to cancel. It was really hard to find, but I also found that there are some protections in some states. Several states, including mine for instance will require the insurer to pay a 10% penalty per month after 45 days if they delay in refunding the money - at least it is a small incentive to refund quickly.

The link you provided was good information, I am sure my dealer won't be happy about losing their commission. I'll be sure and post what happens. Thanks again.

When I bought my D I wasnt aware of the Mopar MaxCare lifetime. I let them sell me an extended warranty for $3000. I asked for a Mopar warranty but it was actually a third party. The finance guys totally lied to me. About 7 months later I tried to cancel over the phone but they just kept giving me the run around saying that someone would call me right back but nobody ever did. Finally after about 6 calls to the dealer over 2 weeks I went down and demanded that they cancel it immediately. Of course they asked why I wanted to and tried to talk me out of it in every way they could think of. It was really annoying but I stayed firm and they finally canceled it. What a pain! The third party did deduct a few hundred pro rate fee and put the rest toward my loan balance. That was a total rip off for something I didnt even use and I would actually be covered by the factory warranty anyway. There should be laws in all states against that! An extended warranty should not start until AFTER the factory warranty ends! I can understand a small $50 processing fee. Oh well lesson learned. I have peace of mind with my MaxCare Lifetime warranty($2030).
I plan on keeping the D for at least 8 years. Most issues come up after 100k miles.

The Mopar Max Care warranty has $100 and $200 deductibles, and works the same way: One deductible payment per visit to the dealer, regardless of the number of issues to fix. The Mopar Max Care warranty is backed by Chrysler though, not a 3rd party, and is an exclusionary warranty. Exclusionary means everything on the vehicle is covered, unless specifically called out in the contract as not being covered. Most all other warranties are inclusionary; which means only the items specifically listed in the contract are covered, and anything not listed is not covered.

The Max Care, 8 year, 120k mile warranty, with a $100 deductible, cost me $1920. A lifetime Max Care warranty can be had for around $2100. I chose the 8yr over the lifetime because the lifetime is not transferable to a new owner, while the 8yr is.

I don't know what your 3rd party warranty from CarMax covers (ie: exclusionary or inclusionary), but for $2300, you could have gotten a lifetime MaxCare warranty from Mopar with a lower deductible.

Another benefit of the Mopar Max Care warranty is the dealers have no issue working with it. You can take the vehicle to any Chrysler dealer, and they treat it just like the factory warranty. With 3rd party warranties, a lot of dealers will require you to pay for the repair, and then you have to get reimbursement from the warranty company. Not with the Mopar warranties though, you only pay your deductible.

If I were you, I would research what refund policy you have and see about switching to a Mopar Max Care lifetime warranty. The highest deductible offered is $200, and it would be cheaper than the $2300 you paid to Car Max.

I appreciate the input but I'll stick with CarMax. I too can take the D right to the dealer and they're warranties are basically white labeled from huge warranty companies (Don't have paperwork here in front of me) but the company in in Florida. I had the exact same MaxCare warranty but only for 100K miles with a $75 deductible on my Mercedes Benz E55 AMG and got it for $2000.00 I took it right to the dealer every time (they even gave me free towing) and covered well over $20K I parts and labor (again at the dealer) in 3 years. I never had an issue once with anything being excluded.

CarMax warranties are excellent in my experience so sticking with what I know.

Thanks for this contact! I bought my Lifetime Max Care through Clay last night. Almost too easy and too cheap to be true, but it's already showing up in my Mopar Owner Connect account so it's all good! Looking forward to a care-free lifetime with my DD! :-D

Do you have Clay's information handy?

We opted out of the extended care from the dealer since I'm pretty handy on cars but after playing around with our new Durango and seeing all the electronics and popping the hood I think I would be biting off more than I could chew. Dealer quoted us at $2,200.

My dealer was way over $2200 for lifetime. Clay quoted a little below $2200.

The guy you need to speak to is Clay Robinson at Zeller Motors in Kansas. clay@zellermotors.com. Most of the folks who bought after purchase go through him, including myself with great success. He's super easy to deal with and is no nonsense. The cost will be somewhere between $2000-$2500 depending on mileage for the MaxCare Lifetime Warranty.

I've heard a lot about Clay on other forum posts and am currently working out a payment plan. He quoted me the cheapest lifetime maxcare rate to zeigler, mopar and a few other companies.
You can pay the full amount upfront or give 10% down and make 12 or 18 month payments.

Be cautious with dealer initial extended care warranties. They often times try to sell you a non-Mopar warranty from a 3rd party. The only warranty really worth getting is the Mooar Maximum Care warranty.

I bought my '11 R/T Certified Pre-Owned in November 2012 and the dealer talked me into a 6yr/60,000 mile Carefree Car Protection Mechanical Failure Service Contract for $2979.00. It says the service company and administrator is Fidelity Warranty Services, Inc. They are in Deerfield Beach, Florida. I have never used this warranty since my R/T only goes to dealership for recall work. I only have 28,580 miles on so far. I inquired through Clay what my best option was for purchasing a lifetime MOPAR Max Care Warranty. In our back and forth emails it was determined that it is too late for me to buy a lifetime warranty.

This was on the Mopar Vehicle Protection web page: "Certified Pre-Owned plans can be purchased on Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep® or Ram Truck vehicles with an active, Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty and an odometer that reads less than 75,000 miles. Lifetime plans for Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles must be purchased within 4 years and 48,000 miles of the vehicle's warranty start date (the date the vehicle was delivered to its original owner)."

My R/T was purchased by the original owner on 9-1-11. My current warranty is good until 9-2-2018 or 100,000 miles. Per Clay, I have the option to cancel and receive a pro-rated refund. Then I can purchase a used car max care warranty with $100 deductible for 5yr/60,000 miles from today's date and it would be $2235. Any suggestions?

$20K in repairs needed in 3 yrs with under 100K miles???!!!!!
I'm sorry but that is INSANE!
Not sure I'm be proud to own anything that needed that amount of repairs within 100K or even 1 MILLION miles.

My .02 is if you need to buy an extended warranty just to get to 100K miles than you need to shop another brand of vehicle.
