Hey guys, Ive been reading on here a little already but have a question. My Dodge dealer here quoted me $238 for the Mopar hitch and $459.95 to install. (outrages)

An aftermarket store sells a hitch for it for $150 ( rated 5k lbs)& $200 install. I told them about the need to cut the rear bumper fascia and they said
'this one mounts beneath the bumper".

The RT Owners manual stats that unless the hitch comes factory installed the towing capacity is reduced to 3500lbs.

Question; with the hitch mounted below the rear fascia, will the payload and towing be reduced even further? I wont be towing unless my Ram breaks down so its only for backup in emergency situations.

Thanks for your responses.

Check your build sheet; for some reason I thought R/Ts came with all the towing giblets except the hitch and wiring.

IMHO get the mopar hitch, the ones that hang below the bumper look lousy.. gonna blow the look of your nice rig..

Tom is correct All you need is the hitch and the 7/4 way plug that will plug into the trailer wiring harness already installed in your Durango. Then they activate the harness in the computer. $459 is pretty high to install. They will need to cut the rear bumper panel but its all pre-marked. Dealer took about 1.5 hrs to fully install my 2013. Once activated your vin will list the tow package.

R/T's have all the other equipment of the tow package, HVY Duty cooling , bigger 220 Amp alternator, bigger battery, rear leveling shocks and full size spare.

Thanks for your replies guys. I definitely want to get the Mopar hitch now. I know I can install it, I'm just worried about making a smooth cutout for it in the panel.
What about a cover to conceal the hitch?

The cut out is marked and the trim panel they give you covers the edge nicely
