I think so - if you open the door wide and look above the hinges there is a piece of black foam between the skin and the frame, contoured to fit there. It moves rather easily if you push it in. I think it's meant to be there.

Incidentally it has gotten very cold where I live (-10 F) and the creaking has all but gone...I suppose a bit less flex of the front quarter panel in low temp conditions.

I haven't yet, so unfortunately nothing to report on that front...but I continue to observe that it goes away when it is really cold. Somehow knowing what is causing it makes it easier to tolerate when it does creak :) We only have the one vehicle so it's tough to find a time that works to take it in to the dealership...

32 degrees here and mine did this very thing this morning. Came here and searched, and surprise: common issue. Same thing here: slow speed bump, sounds like a creak from the passenger side dash area. I'll do some pokin' around when I get a chance.

Interesting theory about the quarter panel. I just went out and pushed on the upper corner of the passenger quarter panel. The rolled edge of it, where it meets the lowest part of the a-pillar was actually touching (the a-pillar coming in contact with the quarter). Pushed it and it creaked once. I kind of pulled the quarter panel out a little and drove it. No more sound so far....but it was a short trip, and it's warmer than it was when it was creaking this morning.

I'll have to check if that's my issue as well. But mine might be something different. Sounds like something rolls around in the passenger dash when I back out of my driveway. And the passenger door panel started rattling like crazy this week. Need to get it to the dealer, but the holidays make it tough. Guess I'll have to turn up the radio for a few weeks.

Look at the exterior base of the passenger side A-pillar. Where that meets the upper rear corner of the fender...they were touching. I just opened the hood and pulled outward on the fender as close to the a-pillar as I could.

Dredging this oldie back up...

We've got a creak that is definitely coming from the right corner of the dash around where it meets the windshield and A pillar. Any one else have this and were able to apply a fix?

Yes, I too have this creak as the op. Have always said it was a front suspension nose from the start. Had dealer look at twice. First time drive around the dealer lot about 50 times over varying bumps. The tech finally heard it. Happens more so over driveway curb slow speeds. He found the lower control arm bolts loose allowing it to slide in the mount. Seemed to have fixed but returned a day or two later.

Second time they couldn't duplicate. This after them driving 35 miles for parts rubs to try and duplicate. Not happy they did this. And it happens at low speeds so they didn't need to do this.

I will check the foam, sub frame to see if it creaks. My question is why a $50000 car has creaks? Especially if the Mercedes GL has the same creaks. I expect better from a German design, no? Then again look at Volkswagen junk...

Also, where does one live where it has been "brutally" cold? What temp is brutally to you? I'm from MN and have been snowmobiling in -30°! Colder the better... :)

I am 13k miles after 1.5 years and don't have that creak. My car was in minor accident where front bumper was replaced as well as right headlight not related to accident, so perhaps they did something that got rid of that creak.

I have the same thing as in the first post: a creak / squeak coming from the corner of the dash on the passenger side when driving at low speed over bumps that put the vehicle frame under a torsional load, such as when entering my driveway from the street and in doing so "climbing" up the curb at an angled approach. It also seems to come and go depending on the ambient temperature (I live in Calgary, Alberta, where the daily temperature has a tendency to fluctuate significantly).

I came across this thread by doing a search, it has been dormant for a while, just wondering if the originator ever managed to locate the cause. It's really annoying, as my D is otherwise tight and rattle / squeak / creak free. Any info others can share would be much appreciated so that I can direct the dealership in how they troubleshoot and fix it.
I have this exact same problem in my 2015 Citadel AWD V6. It has under 7,000 miles on it and this just started the other day. It is getting somewhat cold in Chicagoland. Has anyone come to a consensus on what the cause is? I will look at the quarterpanel, but I think it is inside the vehicle behind the dash. Very unhappy about this, almost $50k spent. Notably quiet ride except for this, a big reason for the purchase.

I was having this issue as well and it drove me nuts! The issue is the foam gasket behind the front fender. If it slides out of place, the top of the fender rubs near the A-pillar when there is body flex.

With the door open, pull the fender near the A-pillar away from the body (it's stiff, so it takes some effort) with one hand and push the foam up with your other hand so that it hits near the top of the fender. If you put your hand behind the fender and feel around you'll understand what I'm talking about.

I haven't had the problem come back.

Good luck!
