I just got a 15 r/t blacktop and I am a little annoyed that the rear "DODGE" emblem is silver and not black like all the others. Has anyone else painted the dodge? How did you do it, is there a way to remove the letters to paint them? Is there a way to just remove it?

I am talking about the rear dodge letters in between the lights.

Most here seem to feel your pain. You can plasti dip them or very easily pull them off with needle nose pliers. I chose the second route. Takes 5 min at the most and your left with a ghost image indent of the Dodge in black.

Since you asked about painting, I did do some painting on my Ram. I two toned the emblem and painted the grille black. Basic steps are taking the parts off, scuffing the chrome, primer, paint, and clear coat. Wasn't a ton of work but way more work than plasti dip. I didn't even consider painting the "DODGE" on my Durango. Plasti dip on the truck and call it a day.

How did you remove those and did it leave residue behind?

the "DODGE" pulls right off with minimal effort using a needlenose pliers. Just grab the letters and pull straight back without jerking them.. they pull right off. be sure to JUST GRAB THE LETTERS so you dont scratch the lights. The letters will likely break at thin parts (like on the "E") but when I say it took all of :30 seconds to pull them off, im not exaggerating at all. No residue. none. zero. leaves just "DODGE" indentations in black plastic of the lights.

The other lettering, like "DURANGO", is a little tougher; it takes maybe 2 minutes to get the letters off. They're stuck onto the car with a foam layer. get a glove, and some fishing line, and pull down straight and steady (the glove is so the fishing line doesnt cut off your circulation!) and it slices right thru the foam backing.

Then I just used "Goo Gone" and some elbow grease and eventually all the foam comes off. Comes off easier if they're warm in the sun.. takes about 15 minutes for that part..

I made the mistake of asking my wife her thoughts on removing the letters. When I go to wax it next time, I think I'm just going to do it anyway. I bet she'll never notice. Even if she does it'll be easier to get forgiveness than permission.

I'm not sure why she cares so much, I removed them from out other cars and she's comments on how clean it looks. plus is so much easier to clean when you don't have badges to get wax and crude stuck in and around. Just an added benefit!

I just went out and pulled mine off with needle nose pliers --- I was really careful and didn't break any of the letters --- I just put them on a piece of wax paper and saved them. May paint them or just keep them to put back on if I ever sell vehicle. Looks good without them imo. Thanks for the info!!

Thanks for info --- I have the Blacktop Pkg so just need to get the chrome DODGE off....... now what do I do about the chrome key hole in the side of my Black Durango?
That's tougher.. I think that's a bad location for plastidip if you're regularly putting a key in it
