I know it's kinda silly but I really like the old 1960's plates and thought it would match well with my Sandstone color. I hope I don't puzzle some cop and get pulled over to see what's going on. This isn't a real 60's plate, the DMV has a California legacy plate program to make new plates with the old look.

Bought my '67 Mustang from original owner and had this type plate. Sold the car 1998, new owner's son took it to AZ for college and police there told him he had to register it in AZ and get new plates. The father still lived in CA and was registered owner. I told him it was BS and to never give up those plates. Wonder where my Mustang is now? We also have my Dad's '63 Corvair with original plates. Looking to fix it up and sell it.

Funny, my dad is a original owner of a '66 Mustang and Corvair. Still sitting in his garage waiting for me someday. I abused those cars as a teen, not sure how they or I survied with out a dent.

My Dad's Corvair was the first car he ever bought new. There were six kids, me being the youngest. We had the Mustangs and Corvairs because they were bought cheap and we repaired/maintained them ourselves. If you didn't work on the cars, you didn't drive them. Our one big car to fit everyone in the days before minivans was a '69 Ford Country Squire LTD. It had a 429 engine and weighed over 5K pounds. Precursor to the Durango?

I have a couple of those in my basement from when I lived out there. They replaced them with the "Sunset" graphics at the top of the plate and then went with the Califronia in script. I liked the sunset ones. it's cool they brought a throwback color.

I waited 2 years but I signed up at day one when they started the program getting deposits to see which decade year plates made the cut. Only the '60 plates got enough response so that's all they make now, no idea of the turn around time now.

Hahahahaha! 2 years was definitely not what I was hoping to hear!!! Hopefully the wait is way shorter now that they are actually sending them out.

Very cool! In Minnesota you can do that also.....provide the 2 plates and they'll register it.

Awesome idea!

Sweet.

Be ready to wait though...took me 4 months (16 weeks) to receive them. DMV said if somethings up at the Prison, they put them on hold. If you just order new plates without being personalized, you will receive within a week. Hopefully you have better luck than me. Still, super happy with the look. Had about 3 comments over the weekend from driving around. :)

We have the exact same vehicle. I think I am now sold on the legacy California plates. I wondered how the gold lettering would look and it does not seem to detract.

Skillz,
are your plate # random or you chose number?
I've been seeing them around for almost a year now, First one I saw was an all black 2015 Mustang (back in 2014) thought the owner painted the "personalized plates" black and gold...

Mine are personalized so I chose them.

They were only released in June this year so not sure what you saw. However, a lot of cars still have the original ones on from the 60s. They look very similar it's just the new ones have to have the reflective paint for safety etc.

Not sure what I saw either, just that it was out of place on a new mustang!
