I'm in on the group buy for the long tube PPH headers and I'm planning on going with the magnaflow cat back system. Just wondering if our cats are good enough with these systems or should I go with a high flow cat? Plus I'm looking at the easiest way to put the system together myself without having to weld things up, like to the cat. Anybody have any ideas, suggestions? :?

Take it from someone who has done all of that.

Unless your cat is clogged, it's good enough. Don't waste money on a highflow cat. You won't notice a difference, and neither will your engine.

I agree

I agree with Mark. Put your headers and Y pipe on to the existing cat and then put on your Magnaflow cat back system.
It'll be great!

Ok. Thanks guys for the info. Does everything just slip together and you use muffler clamps? What I'm getting at is I don't want to weld everything together unless I have to. I'll probably go with the other group buy for the magnaflow cat back system. That sounds like a great deal too at $311 to your door! Just hope it's not too loud, which I don't think it's. Hopefully I can get 40 or 50 hp between the 2 group buys!

You're not going to get 40-50 hp from modifying the exhaust alone. Maybe 10-15 max. I wouldn't waste the money with a cat-back. Just have a muffler cut in. The stock exhaust is a smooth bend over the axle. To get the the inlet to the cat apart you may need to split the pipe where the muffler clamp is. You're better off having it welded up.

thanks for the advice Neil. I'm in the PPH Group Buy Too. I was wondering about the quality of the factory Cat and wether to replace it with a 'hi flow' cat.

you just saved me $150 in beer money.
thx

cheers

I just had the mangaflow put on the D over the weekend, it's quieter then the stock R/T exhaust that mine had.

I didn't notice any difference in MPG or performance with the exhaust over a 300 mile trip over the stock setup. I'm hopeing that the headers (PPH Group buy) and CAI (eBay ghetto setup) will wake it up.

I flashed the 87 program with the superchips to the D last week, a very small difference was noticed in the seat of the pants feel, but so far it doesn't seem to be worth the cash.

I just filled up with premium last night to test out the superchips 92 octane setting, the 87 doesn't seem any different the the R/T stock programming.
Maybe there'll be a difference once I get everything together? but 40 to 50 hp doesn't seem in reach for just exhaust.

Nope, no 40-50HP on an exhaust upgrade (headers back to the tailpipe.) About 15-20 maybe, another 5-10 with CIA, another 5 or so with 180stat, etc. They all add up in the end. Follow those up with the FM TB, M1, B&G Flash and then you'll be well over a 50hp gain. Each upgrade of this type adds to and build on the benefits of the previous upgrade. Alone, they're not all that much, collectively their sum total is greater than the addition of the parts individually.

What group buy for a magnaflow cat back system :? :?:

Spuds--

I have a 2000 R/T, and I felt that the Magnaflow was quieter when it first went on, but it's had at least a 1000 miles since then and either I've forgotten what the stock R/T muffler sounded like or it's gotten louder since it went on. Also, there's no more burning smell from the oil burning out of the Magnaflow, which is nice!

True

They coat the inside with lots of oil and it does take a bit of time for the smell to go away . It'll also become a little louder but remember, loud doesn't always indicate more power!
