Just bought my wife an '03 R/T to replace her minivan that was totalled when someone pulled out in front of her a couple weeks ago. I'm not looking for anything wild, but if there are some popular upgrades that people could recommend I'm open to suggestions. I'm especially interested in anything that might bump up gas mileage a tick. (Better breathing = less work for the engine = better economy in my experience with other vehicles.) I'm NOT looking for lift kits and appearance stuff.

Thanks,
Brent

Try a cold air intake. K&N, or some others. You could go with an increase in exhaust pipe diameter from the cat back. A lot of us went with a 3" pipe and a new (louder?) muffler, I'm running the Flomaster SUV muffler (quiet inside, a little more rumble outside) with which you can still carry on a conversation or listen to tunes without blowing everyone away? You might also check tire pressure, too soft and your mileage will suffer. I run 35 psi front and rear, the ride still seems fine, too much and it'll roll better but ride like it's on rails.

When you're pushing 5k plus pounds of truck with a V-8 you're not going to get a lot of mileage. A lot will depend on your diff gearing and driving style. A lot of us feel lucky to get 13 mpg, but we went into it knowing that we'd pay for our fun.

Welcome to the group and come back often.

From another post I made:

Mods are all about planning. Think of how you want your truck to perform and then make your decision.

There are five tried and true mods that work in combination to give you solid gains in HP.

1. Fastman throttle body
2. Cold air intake (K&N or Intenseperformance.com)
3. Autolite 3923 plugs and a good set of wires (Taylor, Moroso, etc)
4. Cat-back system (Borla, Magnaflow, Gibson, Spintech)
5. 180degree t-stat

Are there others? Of course. But these will get you started and when you're ready, will still work great with bigger and better mods!!

Mod on man!! Hope this helps.
