Hey guys, first post here. Great site.

Unfortunatley I have come for selfish reasons. My Durango recently developed issue shifting in and out of o/d. Ive googled around and forund it to be a common issue, but no one ever follows up with the fix.

My truck will shift flawlessly 1/2/3/3 lock/4/ 4 lock. Until the vehicle runs for 15/20 mins at highway speeds, then it simply shifts back to 3rd/ lock.when I touch the brake pedal and it will unlock the converter and then relock when i let off the brake pedal.
Sometimes it will shift back to 3rd when I simply let off the throttle.

Im confident it is a control issue and not in need of a rebuild.

The o/d light does not come on unless i press the switch.

The CEL does not come on, no codes.

Trans fluid level is good, fluid is un burnt.

I would start with a good throttle kickdown cable adjustment

Throttle position sensor. Should also make the cruise control get unstable at highway speeds..
Ill actually take the time here in the near future and figure it out. I actually have a chassis dyno so it will make things much easier.

I was hoping to hear "mine had the same exact issue and I replaced the kanooter valve and bearing and it as good as new"

My buddy has a 2nd Gen Cummins and his truck would constantly kick in and out of O.D. He replaced the brake light switch under the dash there at the brake pedal and it solved it. Apparently going down the road with vibrations and hitting bumps his brake lights would flicker and I'm assuming if the brakes are hit it disengages some how? It was a cheap, in stock part at the auto parts store. Don't know if this is any help to you but just throwing it out there.

Just a quick update, not fixed yet, but I will get it. Ran it on the dyno, worked flawlessly for about 20mins (started with engine temp around 70*). Multiple up and down shifts with no issue, engine reached operating temp and still ran okay. I then forced it to downshift and try to allow it to upshift into o.d. and no luck. The scan tool I have will not access commanded gear or converter flag so Im now on the hunt for a tool to give me that info.

Brake switch is good, can lock and unlock the converter by lightly pressing the pedal.

TPS output is the same before and after symptoms.

Hi guys
just bought a 98 durango 5.2 from my boss and the check engine light came on. i hooked it up to the code reader and its the 02 sensor. should i replace both 02 sensors? is there any brand of sensors that is better then the other? and are the both the same sensor?
