My local dealer let me walk after I told them I would pay the extra $3,000 only if they threw in the blacktop package (a $300 package on the R/T). They refused to throw it in and insisted on giving it to us at cost.

We went 300 miles away and paid alot less and got everything we wanted.

They really didn't want to take out money.
Not to mention you met the one of the smartest, most interesting man in the world. Just sayin.

Well, I was so excited to make the deal that and couldn't wait, so I left the salesman a message with my offer. No responce at all. Not even a counter offer or a acknowlegement of my message. I know I should have waited for him to call me to see where I was at or go back and see him in person, but I got a little carried away.
Like I mentioned before my offer was close to the max that I can afford, so It looks like the dream machine is just out of my reach. I will however go to a different dealership & build a Durango w/o the hemi and tech package within the next few months.
Thank you all for your input & what have you guys heard about 2015 being the last year for the Durango?

I picked up a 2014 Limited 2 weeks ago. MSRP was $43, 530 and we talked them down to $36,300. The first dealer we went to, on the same Limted wanted $37, 500. They let us walk over $1,200.

The link below is my Limited but we have the second row console.

Nice! I am settling for 35,999 on a Limited AWD with MSRP of 42,210. I have been pricing several dealers within about 200 mile radius and none went as close as this one.

He'll call back.
Nah..its in Dodge's 5 yr plan showing a refresh in 2017 so no plan currently to nix it...but things could change I suppose.
Say if fuel goes back to $5/gal.

I have to go with what everyone else is saying. With my limited experience in buying cars, don't ever feel bad about hurting their feelings. They are out to make money, not friends. I had three different dealers competing with each other, one being about two hundred miles away. We walked out of the show room of the dealer we ended up buying from twice before he met the price we wanted. There is always another car, don't feel rushed, take your time and be ruthless.

If you're really interested though, you should go in (assuming the dealer is relatively close). I'm not surprised he didn't do much with your call. If nothing else, the salesperson wants you in their sight when negotiating a deal that's less than they typically like to sell for.

Unless you think you won't be able to walk away if he comes back with a price higher than what you want to pay, I'd get down there (if you want it as much as it sounds like you do...)

Chase, You were right...He called back ~ now the negotiations begin. He said he was off for two days, which could be true. I just wish shopping for a car was more fun. I guess the fun begins when you drive home in your new vehicle. Stay tuned I will let you know when we make a deal.

Agree.
No fun starts until you drive home....then it all makes it seem worthwhile.
Good Luck on the negotiations.

Before the market took a shite, I had a builder let me walk away from a $170k town home as they wouldn't throw in the fridge. Few weeks later found an even better one at $20k less. If they want the business they will deal, if they don't then F em plenty more fish out there.

Well technically Finny there are plenty more fish tanks(dealerships) out there, that will probably be able to get you the fish you want for the right amount of Bait you are willing to use or they will LURE you into an overpayment. :):):p:p

He wasn't off for 2 days, he wanted to see if you would worry about loosing it and call back. My D was brought in oct. '13 managers car 1,500 miles 52,000 give or take and I paid 42,250 out the door and they gave me 14,500 for my Cummins Ram with 178k on it with bad injectors, no ABS, HVAC system shot and a worn out death wobbling front end. Stay your ground, make them come to you...this is the time to have fun!!

Don't be afraid to low ball the dealer. I offered $39K OUT THE DOOR on a new 2014 Citadel with a $46,350 sticker and ended up getting it for $40,250 out the door. Good luck!

Hey guys, working on the last new DD R/T '14 in the area. Dealer MSRP is 46975. My deal currently is 42K + TTL (using the 0%). Seems from reading here that I should be destroying the dealer even more (I'm in California). I talked to a GM from a dealership who is a close friend and he said that the deal is decent, not spectacular, but decent.

What are your thoughts?

I just got my 15 R/T for 42.6 and the MSRP is almost exactly the same.

Find out the invoice price for it. 1% under invoice is Chrysler affiliates pricing before incentives. I would expect to pay even less than that now since you can get a 2015 for nearly the same price. I would either try and work them down further, or start looking at 2015's. There's no reason why you should take the hit in depreciation on a 2014 right off the bat now that we're in the 2015 MY cycle. They need to take that off the top before you buy, or get a 2015 and let them keep the 2014 until someone else comes along and unsuspectingly pays too much for it.
