Hi all, I am hoping to lock in the purchase of a 04 SLT on Tuesday. If all goes well I will be looking to the pro's (you all) for help and advice. Here is some info on the subject, 04 Durango SLT 5.7L hemi 4x4. It has a unknown motor issue so I am buying it as it needs a motor. The mechanic the previous owner brought it to died mid tear down. He left no notes or diagnosis. All I got is it could be a cam issue and he tore the whole front of the motor down and also the wiper cowling which leads me to believe the motor was on the way out. So that's about what I know for now. It may be a good deal for $1400 and has brand new tires, the interior and exterior could use a detail but that's about it.
Some info on me, I am a 15 year general mechanic with a fair amount of knowledge in the automotive world. I have been a productive member of several online clubs and forums for other vehicles. I am currently a member of a Pontiac G8 (my dream car) car club here in Florida. I enjoy bs-ing about cars a lot and like to learn new stuff. I am married with 1 daughter and one on the way ( could be a boy or girl ). Thanks for the welcome. :)

Pay particular attention to the valve train and springs. What is the build date on it? Look closely for damage to the lower sides of the block from pistons trying to exit as well as oil pan damage from rods trying to come out that way.
How many miles on her?

I have not got it back to my house yet but it has about 112k. I plan on getting a replacement engine anyway if I plan on keeping it. I just haven't decided if I will go rebuilt or used, leaning towards the reman side for longevity.

Get a Nice engine with a good warranty Jasper has a good replacement

Jasper seems to have a good track record here.

Don and others here can give you some other pointers about that vehicle, there are issues about water leakage and electrical corrosion IIRC that you can nip in the bud..

Great I am all for taking care of issues while the engine is out of the way and prevent issues since the purpose of this vehicle will be to carry my 2 kids and wife ( an 8 y/o and one not born yet)
Thanks
