Hello guys!
I live in Norway. There is not popular with american motors in Norway. Partly because the petrol-price is 10usd/galon!!
But life is cubic inch, right? Well, there is not meny 5,7l's in Norway, so my alternatives are 4,7l or 5,9l. The 5,9l is an old, vell tryed engine as fare as i know, but the 4,7l may be a more modern engine.
Can some one tell me the weaknesses and benefits of these two engines? I have no idea of which to choose!

Stian
(PS. Norwegian, excuse my French:confused:)

As you stated the 5.9 is a great old engine. You should get better fuel mileage with the 4.7l with almost the same horsepower. If taken care of both will last a long time. You will probably find 4.7l vehicles with less miles on them and thus hopefully nicer condition than you will the 5.9l just due to age of the vehicle.

The 5.9 seems to be a real work horse. My 2000 has over 140k on it, and I would trust the engine to take me anywhere, In fact my Wife drove it last summer from Pennsylvania to Oklahoma with no problems. I am hoping I can get my transmission fixed for a relatively low price so I can keep it on the road. And yes MPG is a killer, but what can you expect from that size an engine right?? :D

Well. I gues the 4.7 is not a saver on MPG either. The cars for sale in Norway is 2000-2003 models. It is 50/50 4,7 and 5,9 engines, and the miles is about the same. So its hard to choose! Is the extra power in the 5,9 enough to be worthy the extra fuel?

Unless you are looking for bragging rights, or come from the school of "You can't beat cubic inches", or plan to tow a big heavy trailer, it really doesn't make any difference. In your case I would go for better mileage, even though only slightly better.
