Interior colors

Hi All,

We are looking at purchasing a Durango Citadel, likely in the MaxSteel. We are debating on interior color. We have seen a lot of black interiors, but my concern is the heat during the summer. I have seen the Beige Frost but with a couple younger kids I have concerns about keeping it looking clean since it is so light. I have not seen the tan interior. Does anyone have the tan interior that can share a picture? What interior do others have and is there anything else we should be thinking about? Does anyone have the Beige Frost that can share real life experience on if it is difficult to keep clean?

We also have a Black R/T with the all black interior and live in El Paso. We were concerned when we first purchased the D but a hot interior has not been an issue. If it is parked in the hot sun, remote start has it waiting nice and cool for us.

Not clear to me that the color makes all that much difference.

When Lauren was growing up, we had:
- a VW with beige vinyl seats
- a LeBaron with black 'velour' seats
- a Caravan with grey cloth seats
- an Acura with blue cloth seats

By the time I got the first Durango (withe Beige leather seats) she was mostly past her spilly stage..

But it pretty much didn't matter. They all cleaned up about the same. Cleaning up quickly is the key.

Leah has spilled coffee on black leather and beige leather Lexus seats. Both cleaned up about the same.

So, get the interior color scheme you want to look at. IMHO.

I much prefer the beige because to me it feels more airy. My Citadel beige is easy to keep clean it does have a black carpet. If you treat the seats regularly I think you will be fine. Finding a Citadel with beige interior plus Hemi plus tow package can be tough

Personally, I prefer a dark interior, grey or black. So tan or beige was out for me. Any color interior will be hot if it is in the sun with windows rolled up. Like mentioned earlier, use remote start, or get a windshield sunshade and window tint. I have the black, it doesn't seem exceptionally hot. I have 20% tint! and the windshield shade helps tremendously!
My biggest complaint with the black is that every spec of lint, sand, or dirt seems to show in the carpet!
Also consider your environment. If you are in a place with a lot of rain or snow, your carpet may stain easier. Some Weathertech floor mats can help with that, but something to think about. Good luck!

I had a lighter grey interior in my last vehicle and it didn't do too bad with stains and things either as long as I got to them right away. We have a 4 and 2 year old so the crumbs would collect under and around the car seat. I also have a carpet shampooer that has a hose attachment I would use once a year in the summer on all the seats and floor mats. Now in our DD, which is the max steel, we went with the black interior. Yes it shows up all the dust, crumbs and other speck, but does great against stains. I have a mini vac that I use once a week and it keeps things looking new. We went with the cloth seats over the leather because we didn't like the feel of hot leather seats, or the feeling of getting stuck to the seat. I've had leather before and I hated it for the same reasons. I've used scotch guard on my seats and it has helped. I tried the auto version and so far it has held up. I wonder if their outside furniture spray would be better. I know Rustoleum makes their 'never wet' product, but I've heard after a while you get a white film on the applied object, so I wouldn't go that route.

Living in central Florida, we went with the Beige Frost leather interior and could not be happier. There is nothing worse then burning your @ss on a black leather seat. The beige gives the interior a nice two tone look and as already pointed out, treat it with a stain repellant and you should have no issues in cleaning up and spills

My daughter managed to smudge some creamy cheese on those holes ?

Cleaned it quickly with extra wet rug. So as Tom said, the key is in a quick counter attack ?

Something that is an issue kids and light interior I is the seat belts they get nasty. Other things like back of the seats also get dirty a lot easier. I am personally a really big fan of the black interior or darkest available it looks amazing and with weather tech mats it is unstoppable. I don't fine it overbearingly hot due to seat color but just because windows and no vent make it that way and it cools down quick.

I have an R/T, all black interior. I had the two-tone interior in my old Charger and I have a touch of OCD so all the multiple colors never sat well with me--I knew even before going into buying the Durango that my next vehicle's interior would be all one color. Now, I do have a five-year-old. I use a seat cover and a folded towel beneath her booster seat because we did have a couple of incidents in the Charger where she was sick and got it everywhere (this is where leather is a blessing, but with the perforations it might as well be cloth :( ). I also use a seat back protector on the front seats to keep my daughter from getting scuff marks on the backs of the seats. And we have a no-food/no-drink (unless it's water) rule. Really, if you implement protective measures and take care of it and treat it like it's worth $45K instead of $5K, you'll keep it in good condition.

As for the black interior and heat--I have the factory tint still and have used the remote start feature just a few times; the heat is not that bad. My Charger had 17% tint all around and I remember that sucker getting hot during the summer. The Durango has a cold A/C so the interior is quick to cool down, even if you keep the windows rolled up (learned this lesson after helping my husband clean out his Dart and finding bird poop from where he keeps the windows cracked at work!). The ventilation in the seats also helps cool the leather down. I wear shorts during the summer and hate my skin sticking to the leather seats so I put down a couple folded towels in the front seats for multiple reasons: minimize contact with hot leather, keep leg sweat or any other dirt (think clothes, etc) from getting on it, and to keep my skin from peeling off when I get out of the car.

All-in-all, you can keep your interior looking like new with just a few cheap seat protectors, folded towels, and no eating/drinking. And the black doesn't get as hot as you'd think.

We ended up getting the Black and Tan interior in our White Citadel. We have a 2 year old, and one on the way. All-black was out, and the beige looked like it would get dirty really easily.

We live in Texas, and the front windows are tinted. Interior color doesn't matter. When it's hot, it's going to be sweltering inside the car. Remote start is mandatory.
