My 02 RWD 5.9L definitely needs the lower ball joints and control arms replaced. This is beyond my skill level, equipment, and available time to do myself. (Uppers were replaced last year.)

Took it to a local shop and they are estimating $1400 total parts and labor. This just sounds really, really high to me. Can this be right? Is there something crazy about these vehicles that makes this job especially difficult??

I am going to say YES...to your question of "Is this high"....

You can get Control Arms (MOOG) from Rock Auto for $80 bucks each with a Ball Joint included.

From my recent experiences (March), I had a lower control arm replaced (w/ Ball joint), and both upper ball joints, and new shocks installed (I bought the shocks previously), and new brake pads installed plus an alignment for less than $800

then after my accident, I had both lower ball joints replaced, and one upper ball joint replaced, an axle (half shaft) replaced plus an alignment for less than $600.

Where did you have this quoted?
