So, all you really need is the blade and fan clutch? wonder if you can just change just the blade and reuse the existing clutch on the 5.9?

If I measured correctly (it's raining so not a great motivator for measure twice), the overall diameter of the fan is 19 3/16".

My recollection is that the clutch is in some way different. When I had it done on my '99, the clutch was part of the TSB even though the old clutch was clearly perfectly fine with only a few thousand miles on it.

Can the fan and clutch be removed without removing the shroud? Looking today I wondered if a wrench could be turned in front of the fan without dinging the radiator. Or maybe remove the 4 fan bolts and push it rearward to give more room for your hands? Any thoughts?

You remove the fan and clutch via the large nut on the shaft. I don't remember if you can get it out without removing the shroud.

On my 2002 R/T, the shroud is in 2 parts and you only have to remove the upper one (there are only 2 3/8 bolts holding it on the upper of each side) and then it's sitting in 2 groves of the lower shroud. You have to detach the hoses for the front and rear washers, the small hose going to the upper hose of the radiator, the 3 plugs on the passenger side right next to the hoses and it's free and you'll have a much better working space. Just remember the order of the plugs and the washer hoses. Also on mine I needed a special tool to hold the water pump pulley while loosing the nut holding the fan clutch. It can be found in tool stores but I had mine made for me since it wasn't in stock in my local stores.

Thanks Tom! I wonder what the difference could be? maybe it has a stronger clutch or something? :?

So this fan and clutch from dodgeparts.com will run you about $160.

You don't get the fan whine at startup, it pulls in more air for better cooling and is quieter.

In my case, if I don't want to listen to the squeak, I have to do something anyway. It's squeaking less since it warmed up a bit, but is still there. $160 seems more than reasonable for a fix that's also a bit of an improvement.

I looked again and I can get on the big center nut easy enough and, if I can stop the pulley from turning, I can get that loose. If I do that and then pull the 4 fan bolts, I think I could snake the fan out and then the clutch after.

It may be easy to pull the shroud, but for some reason it didn't look that easy to me!

If you place a large wrench on the nut and whack it quickly, it'll come loose.

In case that doesn't work, stick a bolt into one of the bolt holes on the water pump pulley and place a big screwdriver in there to hold the pulley from turning and then use the wrench. The pulley's nut will come loose very easily.

Are you sure that the whine is from the fan? I had a whine but most of it came from the idler pulley, some from the belt tensioner and a the final bit from the water pump. I changed them all out and now it's very quiet.

Definitely the fan, you can hear it spin down after you turn the engine off so it's hard to miss! I may have another chirp, but won't know for sure until the fan's fixed.

I'm looking on dodgeparts.com and when I enter the part numbers nothing comes up. Is there a different site I should be looking at?

First off when you get to site click OEM catalog, then enter part numbers they come right up for me

We'll have to wait for one of the Dodge Tech guys here to post but I don't think this TSB covers 2000-2003 D's
