LED Overhead Console & Dome Lights

I've been wanting to do this for a while (as well as swapping all the cluster LED's for blue) however, the lack of interest in spending $100+ on LED's turned me away, so I'm doing it in steps.

I started with the rear overhead light and next spring will likely end up putting a 3rd row light in since it's pretty dark in the third row. I'll cut a hole (gasp) in the headliner and insert it on the back side of the hump the 2nd row seat light is mounted to. I planned on doing this when I installed the headliner, I just couldn't bring myself to chop a hole in the perfect headliner yet. I didn't take any pictures of this one before I swapped it (forgot actually) so forgive me. The LED is at least 2x brighter and was just a cheapy I got at Advance Auto. I'll replace it later with the same ones I put in the overhead console as those are easily 4x brighter.

Compared to the OEM lighting in the overhead console?

All I need to do now's replace the courtesy lights under the dash with something LED. Not really sure what yet as I believe those are 168's. Before anyone asks about the rear hatch light, I won't be replacing that one since I keep it disconnected anyway. My audio system fits perfectly unnoticed behind the 3rd row seat when up, but that blasted light on the hatch would light it up like a Christmas tree at night so I keep it disconnected. I've always believed that if they can't see it, they won't try and steal it.

I also want to change the vanity mirror lights (#74's I think) with LED's and install a 194 LED in the glove box.

What kind of bulbs did you get for the front? Manufacturer? Bulb style and type

They're called DOME LITZ (yes, spelled that way) and they're universal for many different applications, including the 578 bulb. Same as the dome light in the mid row. They're a PCB style light setup with foam sided tape on the back of the board to attach them. I didn't count, but I think they had like 12 LED's. I got them from Advance Auto and they were about $20 a light. If you get sticker shock easily I think these are a bit pricey for what you gain, but I love the look. I'd say the rear hatch light is also a 578.

Anyway, here are a few more pics I took with my Canon Rebel XT. Keep in mind it was actually pitch black outside, but they're dang bright.

No lights? Can't see inside very well.

Christmas tree, you can actually see how dim it's in the third row? I'll address that in the spring.

I had the exposure set a little low on this one, made them look incredibly blue?

Yeah I know I still only have one doorpanel covered in R/T suede. Shhhh? Those floor courtesy lights are next.

SWEET! My wife's Avenger has the optional LED Lighting package and I'll tell you it's incredible. I always wanted to do this.

Just did some googling and PUTCO makes nice universals as well.

I did mine some time back and have loved them. I replaced them all the way back to the hatch.

Replaced all the Dome Lights with High Powered LED's; lights can be found at www.superbrightleds.comSuperBrightLEDs

Front two bulbs are Cool White WLED-xHP5's and were $5.95 each.

Center bulb over the second row of seats is a Cool White 4210xHP6 and was $7.95

The rear bulb located in the back hatch is a Cool White RL4410-xHP9 and was $5.95.

You won't be disappointed in these bulbs. They're high powered and light up the D so much better than the stock bulbs and look so much better than the yellow of the stock bulbs. Just remember that these LED's are the light only! You'll have to reuse the stock plastic bases on the front two dome lights. Just pull the old bulb out of the plastic base and insert the new LED.
