I have a Hypertech Power Programmer III

Wouldn't you think it should come with a Warranty card and instructions on how to use it

I just got one from Jegs tonight and was going read the features
No book No card NOTHING

Contact Hypertech

That's odd. My Hypertech Programmer came with an owners manual.
I went to the Hypertech website and found owners manuals in the download section of their website.

http://www.hypertech.com/install_instructions.html

Good luck.

I called JEGS

On its way is a new PPIII
They wanted to wait for a call tag
Have me ship it to them
Wait for the new one to come back,More like a couple weeks

I told them I wanted a new one Shipped and IF I didn't send the old one back,Charge my account for second one, don't like having to WAIT for something Paid for and Hasn't shipped

Just looking for customer service?

We're why they have a job right

I too just got my Hypertech 50005, only to find it was used as well, with scratches and dirt. Except I had my manual, it just had grease on it. I got it from LTB Motorsports in Florida.

I?m (almost) willing to keep it, however one thing is puzzling me. At the moment I just want to adjust the programming for my gear change (tire size to the hypertech.) If I change JUST that option it doesn?t give me the option to program. It seems I'd have to change other options (power, rev, speed, etc.)

Has anyone had a similar experience?

It allows you to select that tire change,But it'll automaticly adjust the rest on its own,There's a "Program" so said built in to modify a lot of different stuff
You have a choice if you want to change Fuel grade Tire change Rpm Shift increase Overrev Increase to name a few

"Send It Back" You bought NEW get NEW

Rick

Yup.

That's right Rick! eBay is for used.

The problem is that there are no ethics, so lack of same is met by lack of same. How many time will you use the programmer? For some people it's just once. They buy it, do the programming, and then return it. So the sellers send you a slightly used one, figuring you're going to do the same. Ever find a shock tool in its unopened package? People buy it, change the shocks and then return it. The stores tape up the package and put it back on the shelf. If you want one bad enough, you'll buy it if all the ones there have been opened. Sad.

Update?

Ok, learned a couple things out of this whole mess:
? The Hypertech Power Programmer III used to be color coordinated based on what manufacturer vehicle it was for. Today they're all black.
? You can NOT program the tire size ONLY, without also selecting a tuning (or other) program. This is a known technical limitation because the Hypertech must go through the PCM to get to the ABS controller. And it won?t touch the PCM if there's nothing to program. The tire size is basically an ADDITIONAL option. (The Hypertech technician probably explained it a little better.) :?
? The folks at Hypertech tech support are real nice and my question was escalated quickly. :)
? The owner of LTB Motorsports, Louis, (where I got my used Hypertech) was incredibly understanding and helpful and will send another Hypertech out ASAP (with a call tag) and personally ensure it wasn't used. Now that?s customer service.

John let us know what set-up you opt for and what experiences you got. I'm interested in knowing what changes you can perform WITHOUT having to go to premium gas? Thanx

Sure Greg. I?ve got to wait until next week for the replacement (non-used) one, and the break-in period for my new gears, but I?ll be sure to post back.
The Hypertech offers an 87 tuning which [reportedly] gives you as much gain as the 93 octane. I?ll keep my fingers crossed.

-John

The hypertech like the Superchips programmer has the 87 performance setting , the 91 + setting and the towing setting.
John there has been great reports of the 87 program with the hypertech I believe they stated on one of those early Sunday Car shows that the 87 program was only 2.5-5 hp less than the 91 + program.

Now Very Important DO NOT and I mean it Tow any substantial loads on the 91+ PERF program you'll damage your motor, you'll have big time pinging with a substantial load(2500 lbs +.)
The program advances timing a fair amount so be careful.
I currently have the superchips Programmer and am very pleased with it.
The 91+ setting is very noticeable gain in power, the 87 performance I can omnly tell it's slightly better when I return it to stock.
I have used Towing program twice now towiing about 3500 lbs. It really got the D off the line much better than stock program and allowed for decent passing gains
Now I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this but with the 91+ program installed on very hot 90+ days my D will run hotter with the 91 + program in it than with the stock Program. I finally broke down and contacted Superchips they were very helpful said they had experienced this a bit in testing on the 4.7 liter. They also asked what other mods I had and felt that maybe related to th HO cams I installed as well since they designed on stock platform non modded engines. They asked if it was overheating I stated No and they asked if it pinged when that happened and Again No with good gas. It seems to only occur when temps are above 90+ otherwise normal, and when I say runs hotter I mean the gauge goes up above middle but much less than 3/4 on the gauge. I must admit that I also have my foot in the throttle most of the time as well. They have my information and said if any updates come out they'd contact me to send programer back for updates, Not Bad customer service.
All in all the programmers(either brand), I feel are the safest best bang for the buck.

Thanks Steve. Yes, I?m looking forward to getting my replacement Hypertech and trying it out. One clarification though, to my knowledge the Hypertech doesn?t have a ?towing? setting, only 97/93 octane. But the gains are supposed to be comparable at the different octane. Thanks for the tip about towing on the 93, I?ll avoid that; I?ll probably just run the 87.

Hey, does anyone remember years ago when they had special gas at something like 103 octane? :bugeyed:

-John

Ok

I thought they had a tow setting as well Sorry
Anyhow they still make that 103 Octane Stuff it's Cam 2 unleaded you can get it by Island Dragway or Englishtown about $5-6 a gallon though and not real good for basic setups. Our Catalyst would glow with that.
Read the Hypertach manual thoroughly about Towing.

I checked again and still don?t see anything about octane, moreover I?ve plugged in the one I have and it only cycles between 87 and 93 octane.

I?m a little bummed, if the Superchip has a tow mode, maybe I should be using that (because I?m towing 5000 lbs?)

-John

Yeppers

Yeah Superchips has the Tow Mode that's why I chose it also I got it in a group buy. It was only $300 Shipped as it was the first release of the Superchips 3715L programmer that would work on the 4.7 liter as well.
You'd use the same one!
The Hypertech should work good it's a good unit as well and from a companty that has been making chips and programmers for a long time.
Back in the late 80's early 90's I had a very large chevy truck that required special programming and hypertech actually made a custom set up for me and my sponsors to utilize on it they have great customer support.

So let's get down to specifics Steve as we're talking about a 300 buck mod. Given the current price of gas in Hawaii (and I'm not even go into what folks pay overseas) it's bad enough running regular 87 grade. What specifically, if any, did you see? Thanx for the feedback
