New mod started, grille relocation

The intent is to move the grille to a permanent mount on the bumper section. Also to place it on a spring loaded out-tilt. Then to finish off the hood lip with a clean look and maybe something special mounted up and under the hood using the old grille bracket holes. We'll see.

For now, between fixing a leaky heater hose, straightening up the bumper (I was hit in a parking lot. The bumper it slightly tilted off and there's a scuff in the Stillen that'll wax out. No? they didn't wait to let me know they can't parking lot drive) and between waiting on the rear hatch layers to dry and rework, here's all I got done on it today.

I think the front end looks completely different in this photo. :? Much more narrow from top to bottom I think. Sorta Evo-esque in my minds-eye.

it's a nice hood,

Indy, talk to Dwight (bwdakrt) over at dak/dur.com. He mounted the grill to the upper frame bar somehow.

I think this is what your getting at? I'm not completely "awake" yet. lol

Yep, looks like an evo front end. Use a stock grille, cut out the cross hairs and, using your extraordinary manufacturing skills, make it look like an evo grille! Just my 2¢. :cheesy:

That's a nice look with the grill fixed onto the front bumper. Good thinking with creating a spring loaded mechanism on which to tilt the grill outward in its new location, that way you can retain the easy access to the radiator; best of both worlds. :) Keep us posted Indy!

Yea, mine is a lot like Dwight's grille. Nothing added, just a lower mount. I went about it differently than he did however. I also added a finished piece across the lip of the hood. Stockers and my Moore hood have a lot deeper front edge than his appears to have in that photo above. I wanted mine to look finished.

I'm not satisfied with the trim along the top yet but it'll have to do for now until I can come with something else. I didn't drill any holes in my grille like he did for the springs. Just attached to the insert grip clips. They bite like the dickens so should hold just fine. I may add one eye bolt like his for up and down support. Side to side and spring tension is solved.

I'm specing up a cover for the top of the grille looking downward too. THAT isn't as easy as one may think. Plus home fashioned always looks different than plasma cut pro, robot work.

Denis, a nice outward rake ala the new Ram would have been a good idea actually. I may look into that.

I like that you're covering up the holes in the open hood where the old mounts were. It looks too unfinished otherwise.

While I like the looks of the grill on the front instead of on the hood, I like the fact that the grill goes up and out of the way for cleaning. Maybe a lift-off grill. :thumbsup:

I like it that you can't bump your head, but wonder if the pressure of leaning into the engine compartment for maintenance might not want ME to have the grille there without extra reinforcements.

Maybe I'll just leave it stock. :shock:

The top trim is a beast. Gonna need something temp for the Show and then find something else permanent. Maybe I'll find something at the show that'll work.

I think you'll need to forget about trimming it and eventually have the hood body worked so it has a finished edge and blends smoothly with the grill.
Anything added on (trim, plates) will look unfinished, rework the hood edge and it looks factory. You can do it!

No I'm not that skilled. My stuff is fine for rear hatches and under doors but nothing critical to look at. Nice idea I'll kick around. I'm hoping to find something at Carlisle that I can re-fabricate.

I'm all ears.

I like the front face on what I have, but don't like the trim as is. Like the idea of the chrome trim there, just not the current implementation. Just hurried the trim on there yesterday to get it done (for now.)

Hmmm, that's pretty neat. How did you mount it and how does the overlap where the grill and hood meet get closed when the hood is shut? Can you post some close up pics and how that was done. Two years ago when I had the truck at the bodyshop I asked the guy to do that and he said he could but it'd be 3-4k for the fab work to do that to the grill.

If you drive to Indy I'll bet he can do it for about $100 less than the price quoted you from body shop. :cheesy:
