On my 98, I'm getting a vibration that's almost like tire vibes/noise from offroad tires. I'm not running offroad ties anymore (bought a jeep for that) and have Bridgestone Dueller ATs. The problem has started small, was almost not noticeable but is getting considerable louder. I rotated the tires (they only have 5K on them) with no difference. If you're going down the road at 30+ mph and turn to the left like on an interstate on ramp or changing lanes fast, the noise disappears. Turning right doesn'thing. The wheels aren't getting hot (thought of bearing at first.) It drives straight down the road and doesn't pull left or right. You can hear the roar and feel the vibe in the steering wheel. Any ideas?

I'd think that would be a bearing/hub assembly if I had to guess. Hope you find the problem :|

Wouldn't a bad bearing /hub assembly generate some heat. I have checked both wheels and they're about the same temp after driving.

Mine never did. I had to change the driver side hub assembly on mine and I had checked heat on the wheels before I changed it while checking on other problems and never noticed a difference between the two. How many miles do you have on your D now? I had to change mine at 110k miles and it was shot. It'd hardly turn at all when I got it off, where as the new one was smooth as silk. Hope this helps.

I have 106K now. How hard to change out yourself? Can you buy the bearing or must you buy the whole hub assembly?

It isn't very hard to change out yourself. I even got the hub off without any kind of a puller, although it took 10 minutes of beating with a ball peen hammer to convice it. The way these are designed, you have to buy the whole hub assembly. I picked mine up at advance auto for 128.88. That's if you have rear-only ABS. If you have 4wheel ABS you need to buy the hub assembly with the sensor hole, which I believe costs quite a bit more. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

What's involved in pulling the hub? I haven't looked at it yet (I'm at work.) I have pulled hubs and axles on Jeeps but not the Durango. Does it have the three bolts behind the hub holding it to the steering knuckle?

Exactly! It has the three bolts on the backside holding it in. If you had a slide hammer that'll line up on the Durango bolt pattern, it'd be simple to get the hub out once you have it unbolted, otherwise it takes a small bit of hammering on all the sides to get it out.

Thanks all. Replaced the passenger side hub/bearing assembly and all is good. Again thanx all.

This sounds a lot like the problem I'm having with my brakes. Mine only happens when I'm braking, Yes, My rotors, pads, calipersand rims get very hot. Do you think it's my bearings too?

Thanks,
Tim

If you can wait a few weekends I can do it with you here at my house!
