What headers (brand) would you recommend? I'm leaning towards stainless simply because they're not as fragile as the ceramic ones - though my experience with ceramics dates back to my Roadrunner?

Also what gains have you experienced with them? I'm currently running a Shaker air intake with Flowmaster 50 dualies, Magnacore 8.5mm wires?Thanx

John:

Thanx for your reply a few questions:

1) The GSM you mention are stainless?

2) I'm running fake duelies for the time being as my stock exhaust has a Y to connect to the dual Flowmaster 50's.

3) Is it a bolt on or weld from the pipes to the Flowmasters and how easy an install is it?

4) Where did you get yours from?

Thanx,
greg

Greg,

1. They're not stainless but cermachrome coated. I've had mine for almost two years now and they look a little gray due to heat, but that's about it. No corrosion.

2. You'll need a new y-pipe made to connect to your existing system. If an exhaust shop charges you more than $100 to it, go elsewhere.

3. Everything is bolt on.

4. www.gsmotorsports.com? Tell them I sent you. ;)

What's cermachrome?? Is it a mix of chrome and ceramics? The advantage of ceramics is of course weight and heat dissipation, but are they still as delicate as they used to be? BTW what did you pay for yours? Of course shipping to Hawaii is going to be a b***** Thanx for your help!

Greg,

I believe you're correct. If you go to www.performancecoatings.com , they should have a better explanation, (also known as Chromex.) I know for a FACT it's more durable than just a ceramic coating.

Pricing is on the site. I'm sponsored by them so my price was slightly different. :cheesy:

Can you explain why I'd need a new Y pipe? Can't I got straight from each bank's exhaust into my FM50s since they're duelies??

greg

From what I understand, you're running stock exhaust manifolds. Yes? If so, then the GS headers will be slightly longer than factory, even though they're close to what's referred to as "shorty" headers. So thus, your existing y-pipe won't bolt up. Also, it's a different flange on the collector than stock as well.

Bottom line, have your shop look at them to be absolutely sure. Again, a new y-pipe isn't a big project.

Headers

Greg, you might give Dan (Fastman) a call, also. You probably will want a full length header for low end power, or a shorty for top end power. I know Hooker makes a full length header for the Dak, may fit the D. I'm afraid a true stainless header would be rather expensive. Ceramic coating will hold the heat in the header and send it out the exhaust instead of baking things in the engine compartment. Good luck.

My current is system has the stock cast iron exhaust going into a dual pipe Flowmaster 50. does that help?

A call to the Fastman?how could one forget that?? :wall:
Thanx, 'cuz I definitely need a shorty for low end power. Thanx for reminding me!

Yes, and that means you'll need a new y-pipe.

And to clarify the post above? a full length header will help with low end. Shorty's more with top end. HOWEVER, the GSM's are slightly longer than a true shorty. It's a good compromise and the big tubes really up the flow.

Let us know what you decide. :D

The quesiton was more relating to the fact that the GSM site had a Y pipe for $200 or so. That seems like a lot imply to shorten the connection between the slightly longer headers and the catbacks.

I'll let you know. Of course shipping to Hawaii is always the big headache. I just ordered a 0-120 in/lb torque wrench from JC Whitney for $27.99. Shipping and handling etc came to $27.

Thanx again!

That's because it's a 3" pipe, yours is 2.5".

Again, thank you John. Can you email me privately with your last name so I can contact GSM and drop THE name? Aloha
greg

BTW the Corollary to that saying is: "it's not what you have it's what you do with it!" :]
