Wow, it looks very unsuspecting at first glance but it's a beast! Supercharged 5.9 with CAI, high flow cat, custom 3" exhaust and headers?I don't doubt that 365 HP. Looks like he put together a very detailed instruction manual for installing that supercharger, complete with personally hand drawn diagrams, labels and pictures of every step. I wonder what he's hoping to get for it.

Problem is, the thing is filthy. The big dent behind the door and the dirt, shows a lack of concern for its physical condition. Not a D I'd want to experiment with. IMHO, the SC needs to be just right to work as expected and long term. With the looks of the D, I can't go and assume it was all set up cleanly and correctly. I'd pass myself.

Truth be told but hey, for 1k why not??

I'd be curious on how he got that dent in the rear door? What the heck fell on it? That does look like a fair price for it with 2 days left at $1400.

Well the auction ended at $4,000. I don't know if the reserve was met or if the seller agreed to the price. But in any event it doesn't bode well for those of use with S/C Durangos. If I ever get rid of mine, I'll probably part it out as I'd stand to make more than $4,000 in parts alone.

Look how much Warnet's went for or didn't go for. Who knows? It was a show queen (never shown) but the value of the parts far exceeded the selling price.

Johns D is still in his garage and still for sale.

Guess you win some and you lose some. Honestly, I'd rather take the $4k hit than sell it, all that can be made up over time. Then I'd work on it to get it back up in condition over time and give it to one of my kids as a first car lol, or turn it into a racer. If nothing for $4k, that'd make an awesome backup car.

You're kidding? Geeze I forgot what he was down to on the price but it seemed like a steal for the parts.

Once again it's the "sum of the parts is greater than the whole" application. For John Warnet 12K scratches the surface. Except for him no one really knows what all the stuff cost but with a wild guess we can easily exceed the 12K number.<ul>Built engine 5K
SuperCharger/Intercooler 4K
Headers/Exhaust 3K
Tranny 3K
Interior 3K
Fittings, hoses, do-dads 3K
Time and labor??[/list]I know I left out a ton of stuff (brakes, suspension, electronics) and these are just conservative guesses. The problem with parting it out is that you need a shop to do it and then you have the headache of shipping the stuff. If/when the time comes, I'm in the same boat as him. NO ONE is going to pay 18K for a used Durango unless they wanted that specific truck, or have a shop and are planning on cutting & gutting it for parts.

Problem is how was all that assembled? And with what expertise? While I own a torque wrench, I'm not about to break down cylinders or heads myself. And with what aux items? I've heard rumors of bicycle washers of a lower grade used just because they were the right color. I personally don't think John would do that, however the 'nets rumors of such makes it harder for him to sell the D to the forum crowd. I think that's a good reason why he's left the forums.

An earlier review from HeavyD, who has been there in his own extreme Durango makeover and was able to exit from the other side of the tunnel, I believe fairly well outlined the tasks needed to get it completed as it sits. In traditional media sales outlets (newspapers, Craigslist, eBay, etc) John doesn't have to answer or face the BS from (honestly) guys like me or others who are much worse. I understand that and wish him the very best.

Unfinished projects always get sold with the cliche, "My loss, your gain," for good reason. The unfinished project is usually so jacked up and in an unknown stage of disassembly/assembly that it'll only be taken up by a buyer for a really really good deal. If it wasn't in such shape, the owner would finish it.

Sell a S/C'd Durango as is or part out? Easy answer if you can do the work yourself; not so easy if you have to farm the labor out. Best bet would be throw a low buck rebuilt stock drivetrain in, or low mileage junkyard, and sell the Durango straight out as a stock Durango. Then unload the Fastman stroker and MS tranny to an enthusiast. Plenty of Durango and Dakota guys would snap that deal up.

Rob,

You hit the nail on what I'd wondered. Craig's obviously seemed the wrong market for a sale like that while the proper Dodge and custom forums would seem more correct. But, known technicalities of the project or informed questions may have hindered a sale.

That's another option, but I'm not sure it'd work well in Warnet's case. While a stock Duango engine and tranny would get his Durango sold for a reasonable price, I'm not too sure he could sell the engine since it's only run for 10 mins. The tranny would sell no doubt, but I'm not so sure about the engine.

10 min without the proper programming for that motor is probably lethal.
