? until a 2000 D stocker alternator stops working?
Answer: 199899
Everything was fine and then "Check Gauges" shows up on the dash. Voltage was down on the post at 8 Amps. I pulled over and checked the battery, belt, etc? all looked good. Started the D back up and the needle rose to almost 12 Amps. Normal amperage on the gauge is a tad over 14 Amps. All was fine when I was driving along and then it was done. I found that interesting.
A quick call to Pres Steve and we agreed that as it heats back up, output was failing. Steve looked up the replacement options for me (117Amps and 136Amps are available for the 2000 Durango) and I was off to AutoZone for a new one. (Side note, 160 Amp alts are D 2001+ with a different wiring plug.) Thank you for the phone assistance and research my friend!!
I turned off the radio etc and running on battery only plus whatever was getting out of the alternator, the D was ran fine. Even at interstate speeds, no drivability issues were noticed other than 8 Amps on the bottom of the gauge for the 20+ miles home.
So, AutoZone had a lifetime warranty Denso 136 Amp for $145, another $100 core charge and $29 for a new Goodyear Gatorback belt. They do have an instant 20% off the belt with a Alt/Water Pump/PS Pump purchase.
Two leisure install hours later with a helper here and there for an extra hand and all is back up and running fine at 14+ Amps on the gauge. The replacement alternator had a different rear 'cap' on the back side made of plastic. The stocker has a small plastic section where the plug goes and from there the rest of the rear was under a thin metal cap.
Here are a couple of photos:

Sorry I forgot to take side by sides prior to the install. I did trash the little AC bracket that wraps along the lines there by the alt. Anyone run without theirs? I may or may not replace it.
