    The MPG Profile Post

OK Guys, the idea here's to post real pencil and paper MPGs. You can list city/hwy or mixed driving and avg speed. To make this post more accurate along with your mpg please post your current D configuration? (Year, Engine, Mods) in the post as signatures can change. My hope is to create a running log and note areas where we can improve mpg and a "for reference" area.

    I'll go first.

    1) 12.5mpg mixed driving: (Gen1, 2001 4x4, 5.9L, 3.55, M1, 1.7RRs, 180 stat, B&G Flash)
2001 SLT Plus, 5.9L, PPH Headers, MP 1.7 RRs, M1, and VCs, Fastman 52mm TB, B&G Flash, PIAAs, Go Rhino Guards, Tow Pkg, Mag-Hytec Diff & Trans Covers, IP CAI, MOAB Basket, '03 Front Brakes with drilled and slotted rotors and much much more!! Ask your doctor if the Durango is right for you.

Over the time of owning my D, I can come up with an average of 15 MPG, with a high of 22.1 on an all-highway trip, and a low of 11.2 when it was freezing cold out and I was using 4WD and letting it warm up for 10+ minutes before driving.

Usually my tanks in mixed driving are somewher in the 15-16 MPG range, and all-highway are 18-21 MPG.

My D is all stock, and nothing special has been done to it aside from normal maintenance.

I use Champion spark plugs too!

Approx 73000 miles on my 2000 D. I've got the 5.9L and 3.92 rear-end, so my mileage won't stack up with you 4.7L/3.55 guys. Only "performance" mods are a Fastman TB and a QuickD intake/K&N conical filter.
My mileage is a mix of 10 mile suburbia commute and towing a variety of travel trailers.

    2000 11500 miles 13.07 mpg
    2001 10500 miles 13.20 mpg
    2002 14700 miles 12.67 mpg
    2003 22500 miles 13.17 mpg
    2004 5900 miles 13.00 mpg
    2005 4000 miles 12.16 mpg
2006 3700 miles 14.57 mpg Round trip to Hilton Head plus local driving there (2700 miles overall) = 15.1 mpg

    Overall 72800 miles 13.06 mpg

You can see what retirement (and the Ram) did for my driving miles the past few years. 2003 included a 12000 mile jaunt around the country with a pop-up trailer in tow. A bigger trailer (28 ft vs 25 ft) in 2002 (which we didn't tow around the country) impacted that mileage. Starting in 2004 we used the Ram for towing and the D for a lot of "arond town - short hop" activity.

Although I haven't documented my miles per year and mileage per year as Joe did I'll tell you that my D is an 01 4.7 liter 3:55 gears and the avg MPG over the last 5 years is about 15mpg
as High as 21 to a low of 10.5 at times.
Most highway trips avg 17.5 -20 mpg still even with bigger tires
Most city driving results in about 13-15 mpg
Bumpers made no differnce with mileage driving to TN this year.

My trip to Va Beach this spring yeilded me 14.8 factoring in my larger tires and odometer error due to said tires.

I have the 3.92 rear on mine with the 5.9.

I drive like you BigRick. With a big lead foot!!

The 1999 D's computer gives me a 8 mpg city only reading. Don't have a hwy reading, because I don't use it much on the hwy currently, but use to get around 12-14 on the hwy w/my 2001D. I've been using my SRT10 mostly on the hwy and have been only getting a 10 mpg reading on the SRT10's computer for that, but that's because I've been having so much fun trashing it around. However, I have gotten a reading as high as 14 mpg on the SRT10 on the hwy when I can manage to keep my right foot under control.

I have an '02 4.7L SXT 4x2 Stock with all maintenance up to date. Pen & paper calcs yield consistent 17 or 18mpg average leaning more towards highway driving at constant 40mph (70%/30% Highway/City driving) with a little over 20 miles roundtrip. It probably helps that I don't have 4x4 and 3rd row seating adding all of that weight. Warmer climate helps too.

The gas milegage isn't that bad for an SUV with a V-8 and I've been impressed on the whole especially from what I've heard from others. Fuel economy is more important to me previously owning a '92 Sentra that avg 25mpg even being 10 years old!

I was in one of my supervisors '02 5.9L R/T and he avg 12 mpg hwy on our 1 hour trip highway milegage going around 80mph with the air cranking.
