    Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300, Dodge Durango, and 2012-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. The affected vehicles have electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) and are equipped with a 5.7L or a 3.6L engine and a 160, 180 or 220 amp alternator. In the affected vehicles, the alternator may suddenly fail.
    Note that no V8 Durangos in that time frame had electro-hydraulic power steering, so this does not apply to V8s on that platform.

    Where do you find this "electro-hydraulic" power steering in your build sheet? Mine only says:


    • Performance Steering
    • Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel
    • Sport Suspension
    • Tilt/Telescope Steering Column


    I know I have a July 2011 built R/T with tow package which means 220 amp alternator. Tried inputting VIN in recall site, but comes back negative. Oh well, guess I'll wait with everyone else.

    I thought there was an earlier recall on the alternator, I feel like mine was changed a few years ago.

    yes, there was an earlier recall.. it only covered the smaller alternators.

    Something in the back of my brain is telling me I read that the problem is triggered by the current-draw profile of the E-H steering.. but I may have just dreamed that up.

    Dodge told me tow my 2012 Durango to a dealership to get it diagnosed. I paid for a tow to a Dodge dealership. They replaced the faulty alternator free of charge but just received a call that my PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is faulty and has to be replaced for approx. ($950 parts and labor included). "His words were the alternator is still not holding a charge." So I had to pay $89 for a basic diagnostic (all this after the alternator was replaced). Anyone else have this issue? I have yet to pick it up from the dealership.

    The $89 should be absolved when a repair is performed.
    I wonder if the faulty alternator damaged the PCM?

    He has his words a bit messed up as a battery might not hold a charge...but an alternator is either putting out 13-14v or not. Should hold steady with a load on it, such as AC on and high beams.

    seems odd to me that the steering system would be different between v6 and v8 models. The alternator i could see going either way. Oh well. I got a hemi so I guess I am good.
