    ZF fluid change

How many quarts does the drain & fill take on the 8HP70? Looking for quantities for with pan/filter and for without.

Is seems either genuine ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid or Ravenol J1D2113-004 ATF are the best options.

It's interesting that the OEM ZF fluid is only semi-synthetic, vs Ravenol that is full synthetic. But they are priced similar.

Not sure on quantity seeing its a fill for life fluid per manual....but I've seen Youtube videos of changing the oil in Ecodiesel Ram's that show how much they used.
How do you know the OEM fluid is a semi-synthetic.
    Its like water.

ZF says the fluid needs to be changed every 80-120km (~50-75k miles) and it has

I used the 'ZF Fluid 8' which comes in liters not quarts. I did a pan change to the PPE aluminum pan that holds one extra liter then the stock plastic one. It took a total of 7 1/2 liters.

That looks like a very nice trany pan for the 8HP70 - too bad they don't make a version for the 8HP45 that is used behind the gasoline V6 engines.

I thought that applied to earlier 5 and 6-speed ZF transmissions...not the 8-speeds. Hmmmm...

This is where Chrysler and ZF diverge.

Chrysler, whom warranties the trans, says it’s a lifetime fill.

FWIW, I have read Audi and BMW also state it’s a lifetime fill.

Exactly - had that discussion with the dealership last week - they can only do what the Chrysler tells them to do.

I'm sure they would change out the fluid for you....for a price.
Or you could look for an independent BMW shop and talk to them.

Otherwise might as well wait until warranty is up before touching IMO.

Extended warranty just expired this week. Plan to changed the front and rear differential, transfer case and trany fluids this Spring/Summer. Got a quote from the dealership on doing this and decided I would give it a try myself - can't be worst than dropping the torque tube in my Corvette Plus I need to install those Bilstein 5100 front shocks and do the rear brakes as well. She will need some TLC once the warm weather comes back.
