I just put one of these in my truck. I got it for $49.59 during https://www.eastcoastmoparts.com/ Black Friday sale. The part number is 68299963AB. It was pretty easy.

I followed the steps in this thread. With a one step different I'll talk about.

http://www.dodgedurango.net/forums/...ge-durango-how-tos/15584-how-change-starter-button-red-srt-style-2014-only.html

First thing is if you gonna do this get your self a set of trim tool. You can get a nice set at Harbor Freight for pretty cheap.

Now you they widest one you have and pop of the trim bezel around the radio. Start at the center top and just work your way around. Just use the tool to pop the clips. Unplug the one plug on the back and set it out of the way.

Remover the four 7mm screws. I just let the radio face hag. It will be fine. there are bunch of plus and I didn't want to discount them all.

This is what I kind of did different. I took one of my small trim tool and slipped it in on the top of the button from the front to depress the tab on the top left side. There are three tabs in all top left and right and one center bottom.

Now you'll have to reach inside the radio hole right under the vent and release the right top and the bottom. You can see the back of the button in the picture, but I circled where you are gonna see it.

Once you put a little pressure on the tabs it will pop right out. One you get it released you can pull it forward a little and turn it so you can unplug the harness from it. It's in a bad spot to try and unplug it while it still seated.

Just pull it out and release the trim ring and swap it to the new button.

Put it back in the hole but don't seat it until you plug the harness back in.

Seat it. Reseat the radio face, screw in the four 7mm screws and reseat the trim panel and that's it. Super easy.

It looks cool in the dash and the best part to me is the back lights on the new push start button are blue and match the rest of the interior now.

If you notice the pictures on the tread that I used to di this you'll notice that the part they were using has the yellow back lights like the stock push start button had.

Sorry some of the pictures posted sideways...LOL

Nice write up.

Wonder if you could swap the red button for the black so it’s looks like the old one but with blue lights.

Good question and it got me wandering so I took the old push start button apart to see what was up.

There are two T115 screws that hold the two pieces together.

The board is held in place by the two larger post (right center and left bottom) with holes in them. They are the pressed type so they are kind of flared to hold the board in place. The LEDs that produce the light are the three white squares at the top of the board.

This is the top cover to the push start button. You can see the channels that the light passes through to light up the OFF/ACC/RUN on the top of the ring.
So I'm just gonna guess and say there is another LED that is either wired to or on the bottom of the board that provides the light the push button its self.

If the board would have pop right off I would have torn it down farther for you, but being that I didn't want to force anything since I like the red button I stopped there.

Looks like I will have to pick up a spare stock one and that. Swap parts and install [emoji51]

Yeah the blue back light was a delightful surprise. Wasn't excepting that. The part number was sourced from a 2017 SRT Jeep. The strange thing is I saw a picture someone posed of their DSRT and it had the yellow back light. Weird.

Put mine in today. Love the look! Install was exactly as described, but I too did one thing differently. I accessed all the lock tabs from the front with my trim removal tool.

Either way, it took about 15 minutes. Thanks for the write up!

ditto that :)

although my kids still give me sh!t about it everytime Im in the truck. Dad .. you paid $50 for a RED button when the black 1 was fine ... shut up and quit back seat driving :)

it does accent the red interior, perfectly. And while you are at this I may add, go for the SRT steering wheel, and dye the white stitching red as well :) red everywhere on the interior, cant go wrong !!! just wish my awesome paddle shifters were connected to an awesome transmission...

The SRT wheel is a must if you drive alot. Night and day difference in fee, for a relatively inexpensive mod (Yes, $400, but you can feel where your $$ wnet). Mine had black stitching, but I kinda wish it had the red (or white so I could dye it). Either way, it's still worthwhile, and gors great with the red button!

New member here with 2014 DD v6 and I was wondering if the red button that’s being discussed here will work with my year Durango? Or if it’s only for the newer Durango years and I have to use the red with the “yellow” back light as previously discussed. I really want the red one BUT with the blue led back light on it. Can someone please confirm?

The part numbers are different thou that’s what has me not pulling the trigger on this mod.

One has 68299963AB - Which is the one that I want. It’s the red button but with the “blue” back lights to it.

The other one has 1UL96XR4AA / 6GE11XR4AB - Which is also still the red button but with the “yellow” back lights on it. This is the original one that was mentioned in the original thread when the member first did the mod.

But then @craigffb / Did the same mod but with the button that comes with the blue back lighting on it. - Hats the one I want to install. But want to make sure that the part # which is 68299963AB will work with my 14 DD v6

The original one which has the yellow back lighting will deff work and it even tells me it will work according to eastcoastmoparts website.

But the one @craigffb posted with the blue back lighting it’s telling me it won’t work! ??‍♂
