Of course it's winter and no heat.

    Happy holidays to everyone.
My heat is lukewarm at best, so I replaced the thermostat, fresh fluid, and still no real heat. I called the stealership, and I now know where the Grinch lives. I was quoted $1150 P&L for the heater core. SO? exactly how hard is to replace the heater core on a 2000 5.2? Mind you I have mechanical ability, or at times disability. Is this a tree I shouldn't be barking up?

While $1150 is a lot of money the heater core is a nightmare to do as the entire dash must come out

well, before I sprung $1000+ for that, I'd try a careful flush of the heater core?

That might end up making the heater core leak, or might not?

I'd also make sure you don't have issues with a blend door or something?

    Heater

Yes sir?went out bought a cheap hose and clamps to try a flush. Just gonna disconnect from water pump and from splice and flush both ways. I sure hope this works, otherwise, I get closer to the purchase of another vehicle?which means payments again after 4 years of not?YUCK

Don't think it's the blend?as it was working fine and I never moved the setting.

I went 3 yrs without heat, and finally sprung for it this year. Have them replace the evaporator for the A/C while ther in there.

Unless you can do without the truck for a few days, I'd suggest having it done.

just be careful with the pressure when you flush it? your house water pressure is probably 40psi+, and the heater core is many years old?

As Tom said the house pressure can be higher than the core would like. Mine runs around 60psi.

    All is well

I did the flush a few times? lot of junk came out and? I HAVE HEAT!
    Thank you all.
I just ran hot water through it on both lines and was pinching the hose to cut down on the pressure but did burp it a few times and watched the crud flow out.

Wonder if every so many years back flushing the heater core would prevent some of the failures

What's in the heater core is in your block and radiator also. Flushing regularly will help keep this stuff down and the heater core will last longer. I finally did mine this year for the 1st time since 99, due to annually cleaning the system out.
