wiring harness can't connect to hitch w/ spare tire in place

I posted this within another topic thread, but it may have gotten lost in the shuffle?

I installed my wiring harness for my trailer hitch however I can't connect it to the hitch because the spare tire is in the way of the connector box on the hitch itself. is there some sort of adapter that I can use to lengthen this connector so I can plug the harness in around the spare tire underneath?

my hitch looks just like kevin_rants in this thread --> http://durangoclub.com/forum/viewtop...9508c48d5c719b

    any ideas??

You could just cut the wires and extend them with butt connectors, crimpers, and some wire

Yeppers. It looks nice and classy on your D. Congrats!

I like it better than the moose killer style that wraps up over the headlights.

I went with the Westin Safari Bar because I wasn't sure about the skid plate on the Westin Bull Bar. I didn't know if it would look heavy or out of place. In your photo, it looks real nice.

    Easy to install?

    Harness

You mean the harness is too short? Mine came with 3 feet of extra harness? I'd check your harness routing and see if you can pick up some more slack. Also, if interference with the tire is a problem, loosen the spare and push it toward the front of the D while a buddy winches it back up. You can make some extra connection space that way. I had the spare out when routing my harness, come to think of it.

oh no, I have plenty of slack too - that's not the problem.

I wasn't aware that the spare could be moved into another position, I thought it was in a "niche" up there. I could give that a try.

what happened when you put the spare back up? did you have a problem with the harness in place? maye I can just remove the spare, hook up the harness and then put the spare back up?

    than Q!

1000% easier to install over the Mopar one. Not as heavy either. I love the look of it. I also have the side rails (chrome.) I installed one and didn't like it. But since I'm going to lower it, I left one side on so I can compare after the drop.

    Wiring

When it goes back up you have some wiggle room. Not much, but some. Just push the tire forward before it seats. It should fit fine. You'll need that spare one day? so I wouldn't do anything rash.
