2008 Aspen full size spare information needed

My 2008 Aspen was supposedly delivered with a full size spare (17" steel wheel), but that particular wheel and tire was missing when I bought it (there's the rusty end of a spare tire winch cable where the spare should be).

While the road wheels are documented as 8 x 20s taking P265/50R20, there's nothing about the spare other than stating on the tire placard that it is a P245/70R17 tire. Curiously, the original window sticker indicates that the spare is a P215/65R17

My research indicates that the factory spare is a 7.5JJ x 17 wheel with a positive offset of 35mm and a 5x5.5 PCD. Can anybody confirm that this is correct. I'm guessing that a 17" RAM 1500 or a 5 lug Dakota spare would fit fine, although the offset may be an issue.

I have been caught before by a used car that when I investigated some serious wheel alignment problems, it turned out that the 4 road wheels were from at least 3 different vehicles, and while the wheels were all the same diameter and PCD, the wheels had 3 different width and offset specifications, and nobody could tell me what the correct wheel size should have been.

My old 2005 Durango took P265/65R17 tires on all wheels including the spare, so that was pretty straight forward.

I've done the numbers and P265/50R20 tires have a rolling diameter of 30.4 inches. The P245/70R17 tires, that the placard said is the correct size for the spare, have a rolling diameter of 30.5 inches. That's near enough. You get more difference between a worn and an unworn P265/50R20.

That bit's easy enough to calculate. It's finding the width and offset of the 17" steel wheel that the spare is supposed to be fitted to that's causing issues. My best guess is that it's either a 7" or a 7.5" width.

    James:
The 04,05,06 Durangos came with either the 265/65/17 or the 245/70/17. My 04 SLT came with the 265 tire size, but come replacement time, I found that the 245 size was available in twice as many brands for less money. The size difference is little to none.

The spare, even if "full size", may not match the other tires on the vehicle.

My '07 GC has a full-size spare with matching tires and alloy rim with TPMS.. buildsheet says "TBWS - Full Size Matching Whl Spare Tire"

My '14 GC has a full-size but different tire on a steelie with no TPMS (road tires are P265/60R18; spare is P245/65R18XL) .. buildsheet says "TBBS Full Size Spare Tire" and "WLBP Steel Spare Wheel"

    Tom:
Good point. My former Crown Vic had 235/55/17 aluminum wheels, but the spare was a full sized 225/60/16 tire on a steel wheel.
That was factory per the build sheet.

    Here's the tire placard.

2008 Aspen full size spare information needed-tire_placard.jpg

Tire size is easy to see ... Front:P265/50R20, Rear:P265/50R20, Spare:P245/70R17, but nowhere can I find details on the width of the 17" steel spare. Educated guess is 7 or 7.5 inches for a 70 profile 245 section tire (245s are designed for 6.5" to 8" wheel width).

I know I'm being picky, but I want to get this right.

It's not picky, it's your vehicle. No harm in wanting to know as much as possible. My build sheet states only '17" Steel Spare Wheel'. It shipped with the Night Runner '18X8.0 Alum Black Chrome Clad Wheels'. I have the spare somewhere in the garage, are wheel specs stamped into the rim usually? I can check.

OK, I looked. It is stamped 17x7-1/2 on the rim.

Sorry for the very poor freehand over-stencil, I tried to highlight it. I don't see why your vehicle's original spare would have been any different.
