"Top Tier Gas" / Good vs Bad Gas Article

Saw this on yahoo and though I'd share. Pretty interesting article about the misconceptions over gasoline. The article didn't mention anything about the winter/summer blends in the north. It's interesting to note that I rarely ever used these top tier gasoline.

Seen that type of article from the past. I use Arco, with an occasional Chervon tank every couple of months. I've put 100K on my Durango easily with ARCO, no engine problems

The basis for this story comes from before most of us were an idea. In the "Good Old Days" a lot of places sold fuel, but some didn't sell as much as others and so contaminants collected in the in ground fuel tanks. This stuff would then get pumped into an unsuspecting vehicle and would be half water and half rust and very little to make things go kaboom. Filters weren't too good and carbs plugged up.

We don't have as much of a problem now with injectors and really fine filters and fiberglass tanks.

"Check the owner's manual to see what the manufacturer recommends"

that's the best one I've heard in months.

Most people don't even know their car HAS an owner's manual.

and most car manufacturers produce a brick of a manual that nobody is gonna even attempt to read.

Most of my gas is Mobil, but will play the price game if the net difference is more than 1 - 2¢ per gallon (my credit card gives extra cash back with Exxon Mobil).
But, I also look at the EtOh content - my area of the GreatNorthEast hasn't been hit with the emissions restriction that afflict New England and downstate NY. So, we typically avoid it, but if I see 10% Ethanol, I steer clear.
Regardless, the Albany area was listed among the top 10 most expensive gas prices in the country, so we suffer, even at the "cheap" places.

as far as I can tell, all we can get here's 10%? though I haven't bought much fuel west of I-91 for a while?

the JGC seems quite happy with it, doing better than even the revised EPA estimates? unless I put my foot in it

What? This thing comes with instructions? There's going to be a test? I just want to drive the wheels off this thing and complain cause it's too complicated.
