Good post. We had one of those at the oil change place I used to work at that we used to get the customers to see they needed new plugs. We did full tuneups (plugs, radiator flush, tranny flush, engine flush) not just oil changes.

    Should help some people.

Hmmm, none of those look like most of the plugs that came out of my 5.7L.

    Mine either Tom.
Also, if your plugs come out with a reddish color on the porcelain, that indicates you're using additives in your fuel such as Dri-Gas, Techron or another injector/fuel system cleaner on a regular basis.
They'll also turn a bit reddish with a lot of isopropyl alcohol use.

Here's pic of the first plug change since we've owned this D. Swapped at near the 100K mark and, if I had to guess, the plugs were probably changed sometime in its past.

Nice reference post! What's the general rule of thumb for replacing spark plugs as far as regular maintenance is concerned? 15k miles? I've been thinking I need to check mine; might be part of the reason my fuel economy has dropped a bit in recent months.

15k is too soon. 30k is fine, 50k is due, 75k is overdue. The D usually runs fine at any interval as the PCM is smart enough to make up the slack elsewhere.
