    About to buy '14 Citadel...

Long time lurker who is about to become legit.

I'm days away from buying a '14 Citadel ... it is $32K with 30K miles at Carmax. All I want is factory tow package and V8 for my travel trailer. There's not many other D's near me that fit the bill, so this is going to be the one. The price seems acceptable based upon KBB/Edmunds. I've been reading (too much) to self-educate but I'm overloaded with info. I'm a smart guy but not a car guy.

It seems like I've got factory warranty left until October, so that is a safety cushion. And I'm going to email the forum-famous Clay about extended warranty as well.

Anything I need to know or triple check before pulling the trigger?

Thats a really good price in my opinion especially for carmax. I do know carmax sells some great extended warranties that allow you tot take it to the oem dealerships. My buddy had one for his Mercedes AMX GL series. Plus they can roll it into your loan. Check the recalls. Find out if it has had all the recall work done. If it hasn't you might want to see if they can do it or give you money off. Also have them check the water pump since there has been a lot of failures.

    Welcome to the group.

You have 6K left on the bumper to bumper warranty.
You still have the balance of the factory 5yr/100K powertrain warranty too.

You are going to really like the Technology group as well. The price falls right into line with all the research that I had done when I was looking about 5-6 months ago.

Awesome, I'm digging the positive feedback... very psyched to get it and I feel good about the price! No open recalls on the vehicle (based upon autocheck and whatever VIN tool I used online). Regarding the water pump, would taking it a dealer post-purchase for a look-see be the way to go -- as in they would replace it under warranty (if failing) before it goes bad? Or is it something you just have to wait for it to break before dealing with?

Its not a recall on the waterpump, so replacement is only if it is failing.
Its is under the powertrain warranty so you're covered for 5 yrs and 100K.

Wow, $32K for a 2014 V6? I would have thought the market would have been around $25K or less by now.
Personally I'm not a fan of that interior color as I don't like the black headliner, but it does go best with the white.

It was a V8/AWD, not V6. 25K seems crazy low based upon what I've seen. All I can find are 2014 and 2017's ... not much else in between around these parts.

Either way, the deal fell apart.... I finally got to drive the D, and the previous owner was a SMOKER. YUCK. The dealer claimed they didn't know that until the car reached their lot. WTF? So I got all excited for nothing.

Now I'm struggling to find anything in the same ballpark... there are no used V8/AWD/Tow Hitch Citadels (or even R/T) anywhere within hundreds of miles that have decent low miles.

cargurus.com or other like it will help in your search. That is what I used and just happened to find my R/T right in my backyard, but I was willing to fly to pick it up from wherever I found the right one.

I wouldn't be too worried about the miles. These things are tanks and will go forever. I bought mine with just over 40K on it and already have over 56K since November 2016.
