    Aftermarket backup camera install questions

Bought a '14 SXT with everything I wanted except the backup camera (do have the 8.4 w/out nav.) Figured I'd put it on aftermarket. One dealer said they'd do it for $800-ish using NavTV and a similar quote using a Pac interface. Seems high (but maybe not)

So, after lurking aplenty in here (I've searched much, so if I missed something, apologies) and various websites, I'm wondering if anyone can confirm/deny the claims below:

    1) No matter what aftermarket video unit is bought (like the Crux/Pac/Mopar 82213322/etc..), the 8.4/engine computer/whatever must go into Dodge for 'reprogramming' for 1/2 hour of labor.

    2) There should be a power wire (or even a harness) back in the hatch door of any D for the backup camera.

    3) The wireless video transmitters sold on Amazon/ebay DO work, work well, and do not need to be out in plain sight in the cabin.

    4) There is no direct connection from the back of the 8.4 to a backup camera.

Any knowledge/guidance about this is highly appreciated.

If you get the crux camera interface it comes with a harness that goes directly into the radio and the factory harness plugs into the crux harness. I can take pics tomorrow if you want to see. I installed the crux interface camera on my 14 SXT and did not have to make a trip to the dealer, as soon as it was plugged in it worked. I even started with the 5.0 screen and upgraded to the 8.4an and it's worked on both head units. Let me know if you have any other questions

Many thanks for the info, Jack; pics would be great if you have the time.

When you installed the camera - did you have to run the wire all the way back and was there any sort of harness once you got there?

Here are the pics with some sort of step by step. First you have to remove the trim panels and all wires were run from the rear to the front on the drivers side so connections could be made under the drivers seat. It was pretty much plug and play. The instructions given with the camera were not that great and took about 2 hours total with having to figure out which way to run the wires. Also broke the bottom pillar panel on drivers side, new one on order to replace. Hope this helps out.

The camera kit cost me a little over 500 from crutchfield. I had it on my titan and was disappointed when the durango didn't have it. I also started with the connect 5.0 and upgraded to the 8.4an.
