Any 3rd gen onwners in HOT climates? I notice when I leave the A/C blasting for evening auto starts, the temp hand goes a little past half (about 5/8) and the fans are blowing (at idle). Is this typical?
Quite a few of us have needed new water pumps on the 5.7, sounds like it's your turn. That's how mine started, idling hot then it sprayed coolant then it let go all the way
The plot thickens.........Never had these two symptoms at the same time. Overheating and heat blowing out cold (I thought blockage or bad heater core).
I was about to pull over before the temp got to high on the way to work this morning. All of a sudden the heat (which had been on for a few minutes but blowing cold) started blowing hot. The temp went down and a heard noise down low behind the dash (Where I'm used to heater cores being but I haven't checked exactly where on the Durango).
Hopefully is only the thermostat. I'll be able to diagnose when I get off work.
I ended up pulling a double at work and didn't get to the Durango. My father-in-law is an old school (81 yr old) mechanic. He said the same about the radiator and is looking at it while I'm at work.
Forgot to update.
I replaced the water pump myself, flushed the system and decided to run water/water wetter for the summer.
