    Right Turn Signal

OK?I'm not overly knowledgable with diag problems. I just bought a 2001 D SLT. The right turn signals don't work. I checked the fuse and the bulbs?they seem fine. Everything else works, just not RIGHT turn signals. Does anyone have any ideas on what to check out? Thanks.

Just for grins, did you actually replace the bulbs, or just inspect them? I've found that poor socket contacts can result in a good bulb not working.

I believe there are separate flashers and they're a special type up under the dash.
If they're not the source I'll bet the switch is bad in the stalk

Thanks for the info. I didn't change the bulbs, just checked them. I'll change them and start there. Two separate flashers? huh?I'll check that also.

I'm not sure what you're referring to Steve? If you mean the hazard vs turn, yes there are two flashers. The turn signal is on the back side of the fuse panel and sort of a PITA to reach.

When you say the turn signal doesn't work, do you mean it comes on but doesn't blink or it doesn't come on at all? I'm not sure if the flasher will cause one side not to work while the other does. I had flashers in both my vehicle recently go and both directions didn't come on. My Haynes has the pin outs for testing the multi function switch.

    - Bulbs If a bulb is burnt out, the flashers will blink fast. If a bulb is disconnected, they'll come on and not blink.

    - Fuse. Easy to check. There's more than the flashers on the fuse.

    - Flasher $13-14 from the parts store. A little difficult to reach by fairly easy.

    - Multifunction switch. A bit more expensive and you'll need instructions and a multi function meter or at least a continuity tester.

Thank you all for the suggestions and info. I'll explain a little better. The left side works totally fine. Even if I turn the hazards on the left side will blink. The right side does NOTHING (regular or hazards.) It doesn't stay on. It doesn't flash faster. It makes a click sound and NOTHING at all. Thanks for the help. (for the patience with a new owner also)

I think your combination flasher is shot, or there's a short in the right side turn signal wiring.

on an 01, the multifunction switch just sends a signal to the flasher that says "right turn signal on", and the flasher has separate outputs for the left and right signals (and a separate pair for the trailer-tow connector)

The right turn signal output from the combination flasher is the tan wire? put a test light on that and see if it blinks when the turn signal is supposed to be blinking (the right trailer output is brn/red, might be interesting to see if that blinks as well)

Quick update. I changed out the bulbs and I still have NO right signal. I put my hand on the flasher under the dash and it does nothing when I turn the signal on. Other question comes to mind?how the heck do you get that thing out? Thanks.

    hm?

if, when you ground the light-blue/yellow wire, the turn signal starts working, then there's something wrong in the multifunction switch or its wiring? if not, then it sounds like the combo flasher?

    some stuff attached?
