Ok, I've been putting off replacing this thing for about three years and I think it's time to finally bite the bullet and get it done. If I were to order the part and replace it myself, would it start and allow me to drive it to the dealer to reprogram the keys?

Also, in speaking with the parts dept at the local stealer, they mentioned that they'd need the VIN and mileage and have the part programmed and ordered from Chrysler. That doesn't seem quite right.

As always, thanks for any assistance

It most likely won't if your D has security.
About $400 complete at the dealer.

They may well need the VIN to get the right configuration.
Then again, some places won't sell you a lug nut without a VIN.

I had to replace mine on my 01. Just give them your VIN# so they order the right one. There are 2 versions of the CTM, a loaded one and a base one Mine was pretty much plug-n-play and very very easy to install! The only thing that won't work is your key fobs. Take them to the dealer to get them programmed in about 20-40 depending on dealer. If you install it yourself, it's located on the drivers side kick panel and you have to remove the plate along the edge of the door to gain access to the screw holding on the kick panel cover. There's also one up top hidden by the carpet once the panel is removed and 3-4 long screws holding it in. Remove those and it'll come loose and then there are some connectors at the top of the CTM. Be careful with unplugging those. Installation is just reverse this procedure! Good luck and PM me if you need any assistance! Jim

Mine was plug and play as well.

Got it used from a local wrecker last fall and have had no problems. I had to give the VIN# to the wrecker so he could cross check something for some reason! My year had a recall though and maybe that was why.

The bonus was I only paid $100 for it.

When the CTM on my 01 went, the bill was around $475 out the door. Seems like I recall another poster on another forum that I assisted with info and she ended up paying $525 for hers installed.

As Indy pointed out at that time, they were charging more than book time and it was a full hour instead of the half or third it should have been. In my case, I didn't make waves since they've treated me very well on both my D and the wife's Grand Caravan.

I forgot to point out, I had to get the fobs reprogrammed after I replaced mine. They charged me $25.
