Tranny going to neutral when kickin in passing gear.

What causes it to go into neutral when you kick it? If I ease down on the gas pedal, it goes down one gear (or the clutch unlocks, not sure on this) but if I push down a little further, it goes to neutral and engine revs but there's no power to the drivetrain. What's the sequence for shifting as far as when the torque converter locks up? It's a 4 speed tranny but the RPMs drop 4 times, like it was a 5 speed.

Sounds like you have a Governor Pressure Solenoid problem or an improperly adjusted TV cable.
When's last time the tranny was serviced and were the bands adjusted?

Right. What I was asking is, when exactly does the converter lock. After a certain speed is reached? When it shifts into 3rd? Or after it goes into O/D?

It was rebuilt 20k miles back. Mopar fluid and the bands were adjusted. Is the Governor Pressure Solenoid one of the ones on the valve body?

Converter lockup is controlled by the PCM based on throttle, roadspeed, etc, and is available in 3rd and 4th gear.

Do you get the RPM flare when doing a kickdown with O/D off? When you do a manual D->2 downshift?
